I wouldn't really trust the dimensions listed for those screens. I purchased two replacement sun visors like those and they fit perfect exept the dimensions failed to compensate for the mounting point and they were way off. So a little cutting and modification to them and they fit but now it's getting them to look good. They're made of a hard plastic and are hollow on the inside. I have a big whole in the side of both the visors and need to fix or at least make them look good. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jamie

I like my install the photos I took weren't great, just quickes. No one ever notices it, it lookes like the stock overhead thing w/lights and sunglasses holder. plus it still works with sunroof just mounted switches behind visor, flip it down and there they are. Ladies like it too

Most Pre-fab sun visors wont mount well in the 8 you’ll probably have to get them custom made if you’re looking to go that route. here is a look at mine. i have 2- 7" displays in both sun visors.

Questions

how much did those custom visors cost you? I already have the tv's that I want to use, where could I find a place that would do this? If nothing else could I pay the same guy that did yours to make me some? They look sweet by the way.

Thanks,
Jamie

Is that $500 plus the screens or $500 including the screens?

Pretty sweet, by the way!

Yeah thanks alot man, West Chester,PA is a little far to go but if I cant find anyone here in town to do it for that cheap and at that quality then I'll be giving you a buzz. Could you find out if he could make me a set of visors with the screens out of these right here? I worked at getting them to fit and they fit great but I had to destroy the visors in order to do so. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...949594798&rd=1

see if he can mold the buttons in the new visors like they are on the originals too. By the way, what materials did he make them out of?

Thanks,
Jamie

... oh sorry i got ahead of myself. He sent me a bunch of sample fabrics and one matched our headliner exactly. the first time i send them in to my local shop they gave me 5.8" screens with grey leather for material( ewwwww). I sent them back and one of the installers knew this guy and put me in touch.

Alright man I appreciate it. Let me know what I'd have to do. If he just uses the same color that he used on yours it should be fine. Are the visors flimsy or anything like that? What are they made of?

Thanks,
Jamie

If all you want is computer related stuff and not video.... I may have a good Idea for ya. Check out Sony's ezLCD 2.7" display with a serial or USB interfaces. I bet that would fit nicely in the sun glass compartment. would easily let you put a computer somewhere else and just run a USB cable to the LCD. Could even add a few buttons on it to send to computer to change modes etc.

Sounds like a fun project... I should get my soldering iron out and dust off my C compilers.

Oh no.... I was thinking about doing graphics also in 256 colors... probably cost about the same. Need an external computer (your car-puter) to drive the display. Would have to have some applications to make and some way to gather data that would be used to display. Maybe hooking into the OBDII connector and displaying some gauges and what not. I would be willing to do part of this... maybe we should talk.

well, these lcds can run off of the serial/usb port, so we could use them to display anything AND we could still use the vga for a normal color touchscreen LCD. this of course only if you are running a car-puter. i really like your idea about having it display some car information. i was thinking of mounting not on the sunglass holder..instead on the slope from the vanity lights to the sunroof. what do you think..can we do this, where do we start?
