LED Burnout

I bought four 5LED lights from autolumination.com. After about two weeks, they all burned out. I talked the owner at autolumination and he agreed to replace them. Meanwhile, I ordered two 6LED lights for the time being and now those are burned out? Whats going on? This is getting expensive.

What are you using the LED lamps for?

Although I'm sure autoillumination LEDs are properly made, you may want to add a 100ohm resistor to one of the leads coming out of the housing to limit some of the electrical current passing through the lights. While it may darken the light slightly, it should help preserve the life of the assembly.

LED should last very very long if it's running at the rated voltage.... the only thing that can fry/burn a LED is over volting them... other than that they should last LONG...

I have autoillumination LEDs running on the front and the back 10 all total I believe (there is one in the trunk too )

no problems...you probably put one in backwards...which is a good way to wipe them out

as for turn signals...they use little power so you need a load equalizers to stop the triple blink...I almost made a DIY on it but it is so damn easy it is almost in the tire valve cap DIY level

i sympathize, so far i've had two leds from autolumination burnout after 4 months. a side marker (easy), and a running light (not so easy).

any one know if these things more sensitive to environmental factors?

I had them in my running lights in the front. One burnt out completely in about 2 mos, and the other one half burned out about a month later. Took them out...back to stock until I can get something that works!

I'm guessing you guys damaged them while installing them...the actuall LEDs are fragile by touch so you need to hold the housing and not the LEDs while inserting them...otherwise certain death of LEDs will follow

they ain't the fragile unless ur LEDs r extra fragile.... in ele class we chuck them abound, clamp them, break them, whatever and it still works... other than overvolting them...

the LED itsself isn't fragile...it is the connections to the housing that is...micro soldering
