Red face Look, will one of you guys just help me out?

I've been seaching for about the past hour but can't really understand what I'm reading. My previous vehicle was a professional rockcrawler, so if we are talking about rebuilding an axle in the middle of a mountain trail with hand tools then I'm game, but when it comes to electronics I know about as much as a five year old girl. I have a GT with Nav. Here is what I want...
1. The ability to play DVD's. I would assume since I have nav that the easiest route is to just use this screen, but those that have done this, how is the picture quality? Is it worth it? What all is required besides what is in the mazdaparts.com kit, (and which freakin kit do I need)
2. The ability to play MP3's, whether from an Ipod or another MP3 player, or even some other type of media device, flashdrives ect.
3. I see "TV tuners" going for 150-500 dollar range. Can I add cable tv to my nav screen also? what else is required? Anyone done this? what's it like?
4. The ability to upgrade later as I learn more, maybe add a game console, ect.

Also, What else can I do? I dont even know the possibilites...

To whoever decides to respond to this, prepare for some equally stupid follow up questions that will probably seem just as juvenile to you...

Keep in mind, I know nothing of electronics, and will need to know the projected cost of all this. I wont be able to install it myself, so I will either have to pay a shop to do it, or find one of you guys in the NC area to do it for good money, but what would be the fair labor costs of this?

Do you plan on dragging a coax cable behind your car?

I can help you out feel free to ask any questions...since doing it I've taken it apart twice to relocate the wires for an xbox install and then had to move again for a sub install hmmm now I see why my girlfriend says I don't spend enough time with her

here is the link to the DIY

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-s-video-into-nav-av-electronic-video-switcher-install-44095/

You can put whatever you want on it...a DVD/mp3 disc player, another input could be an ipod nano/mini/whatever, another a reverse/backup camera, another could be a portable video player, video game system, whatever you like

oh btw I added a TV tuner to the car with a specialized amplified antenna...without a boomerang antenna found on Limos you cannot realistically use a TV tuner in a car like ours...I'm going to keep playing with it including tapping into the stock antenna...I'll keep you guys updated

Audio can be done via Aux mod.

I didn't check the price, compare or whatever. Just offering an option. No need to have an attitude.

where was the attitude? I should have put a smiley in there to show I'm helping with a smile

short posts on forums like this are so one-dimensional in terms of expressing emotion (or in this case a lack of emotion)

i'll even make the smiley edited in

Ok... no prob then. As you said about posting on the net... misinterpretation is easy.

Damn... I can't believe that thing is more expensive than the Aveletronic box without even offering audio input. Ouch!

it is more expensive than the Nav on Video 'lite' which is a new product from Avelectronic that does the same as the unit you posted for cheaper

the AVelectronic full switcher is still more but now has many more features including more inputs, a more advanced remote, you can even get a version that outputs the Nav signal to alternative monitors (you can add multiple monitors like before)

Now the question is do you have NAV in your 8? the reason I ask is I assume you have a Japanese Vin'ed RX-8. Do you have the TV tuner in the trunk on the right side behind the trunk lining? If so do you use it? how is the reception? If you know more info on this we should chat

My problem with the AVElectronic unit is that it is hard to get a crystal clear video signal from it without alot of interference.... I have tested my Xbox and my DVD player to an external video source, and they both have a crystal clear picture with no interference. Once I put the signal through the AVElectronics box, I get poor picture quality. Dont get me wrong, Sam at AVElectronics have always been helpful, and the product is GOOD, i just think for 500 bucks you should get a crystal clear video signal.

And for those of you that say "It's not grounded properly"... i will say... You are right, I believe it is all in the ground. The problem, however, is in the unit, and I have grounded the unit in over 15 places, including directly to the battery, and I still get lots of interference, mainly, a tall vertical shadow, that scrolls horizontally very slowly.

I might be looking at that other unit, as it seems to be very simple, and thats all im really looking for.

the best way is removal of LCD monitor for aftermarket...a real pain in the **** though and you'd have to convert from RGBs to VGA or video in
