Mazda MP3 HU Specs

Ok, surely someone who's purchased this must have the specs, specifically RMS.

I emailed carzoomer and he suggested I call Mazda. I will email them but surely the specs were included with the unit.

I'd be nice to know before I make the commitment to purchase the mp3 player and I plan to add the NX30 tweeters. If the RMS isn't at least 18 or higher, I know I'll need to budget additional money and research to add an amp.

the mp3 module has nothing to do with the HU power output.. the mp3 module is simply a player that plugs into the head unit, which in bose flavour, is powered by several other amplifiers.

The front channels are connected from the head unit, to the main amplifier (in bose flavour) to the door amplifiers, and then to the subwoofer & tweeter.

The system is supposed to have a total output of 300Watts, now if that's peak or RMS, who knows.. the subs are supposed to account for 50 Watts each, leaving about 28.5Watts (200 watts / 7 speakers) for each speaker in the system. I'm willing to bet that the tweeters are considerably lower power than the 6x9's and the 3 1/2" cetner channel.. but that depends on the impedance matching how the power output is proportioned.

The stock tweeters are 4 ohms, and the stock subs are 0.5 ohms, making the subs about +9 db apparent louder with a flat eq, which we know isn't quite the case...

It's a very complicated set of calculations to get it all figured out, but the mp3 module works just fine in the system. I'd be more concerned about matching the impedance of your replacement tweeters to the factory tweeters. Too much impedance, and you won't hear them anymore, too little, and they'll be too loud by comparison. each +3db represents a doubling in sound intensity, so it's a very significant phenomenon.

That's very interesting. I assumed the Mp3 player was a swapping of the current cd playing HU with one that was mp3 enabled. Now I'm curious, would I be correct is saying the Mp3 module go in below the HU and have a separate slot for inserting mp3 cds and not into the current cd player slot -- i.e., two slots in the dash?

This would make your aux-in module all the more attractive, because other than trying to find a place to place the external player, it makes more sense to wait for your module than spend $200 to $300 on the mp3 module.

Regarding the tweeters, I was just going to spring for the NX30's as others here have had success with them as a straight swap and the original tweeter locations. The look is just as important as improved sound to me; otherwise I'd just glue some paint can spray lids over the current bose tweeters, as others have suggested (cupping my hand behing the bose tweeters really does help). Maybe I'll post some pics of those glued on lids. :P

Thanks for the info, OL. Now let's get that aux-in module in production mode, darn it!!!

Yes and no, you swap the C playing mechanism. There's two modules within the base head unit. The mp3 module replaces the upper SCD/CDC module location, while the tape and MD are options for the lower bay. So that's not really an option.

As to the aux module... I'm working on it..
