thought so. but why exactly are people needing extentions. and no durrrhs needed i know what the definition of extention is. but if it is like a gmso01 (a gm chime box) you can just snip the wire and add the same gauge wire to make it longer than re-soder each wire. also i read that the box wont fit....has anyone tried taking apart the center consol above the radio and air vents and running the wires up there. ive had it off a couple of times. quite roomy. also i just currently losing both of my jobs and currently have no money but bought the enitre replacement system for the rex (while im employed) and forgot the dash kit so was trying to find one cheap but i called in favors and the cheapest i can get is 150. including ebay.

Splicing and adding your own same gauge wires for extentions is definately doable. The extentions from Metra is just a fix for something they should have provided us with in the first place. As for the space in the upper dash, I have my Kenwood Sirius tuner and my Kenwood iPod connect boxes up there and there is still room. You would have to splice and extend quite a few wires to get the Metra box up there though. One of the guys on this thread removed and discarded the plastic outer box and wrapped the board with electrical tape to save on space and add to ease of installation.

Hmm, I might just move my sirius box to that spot then. Of course that assumes I have spare time to do it before 4/15......

Metra 99-7510 kit install....PROBLEM??? HELP!!

Hey guys, What's up? I just installed the kit in my 2004 RX-8; I got poineer AVIC-N4 with GPS, bluetooth, Steering wheel control adapter and I-pod....all worked great for one day and the next day my HVAC controls are not working. Is there anybody out there experiencing the same thing or does anybody have any ideas of what I can do to fix the problem?

I could also really use the update (though perhaps less critically than some others).

Hello everyone...i recently bought a Pioneer AVIC 900BT and got it installed. I bought the metrakit from lxtronics.com and they couldnt tell me what version the metra kit is. The Pioneer is reburshided and it had a problem with the software. I bought online and it was saying that they sent it back to the company Pioneer and they fixed the problem with the software. I got the metra kit and the pioneer installed and asked to have the bypass. As soon as i got the car, when the car is not moving, it plays video and musics normally, but when it moves like 20mph the Pioneer auto restarts. Some times even says that there's a problem with Parking Brake or something. Is that a problem from the bypass or from the actual Pioneer? This bypass doesnt have an interruptor to switch on and off.
Please Help. Thank you for the attention.

thats wierd, why did they not put a switch? did you not ask? i wouldnt think it would do that at all if it was grounded properly, if there is not a problem with the ground it could maybe be the deck, i am not sure, take it back to the shop, ask them if they can imput a switch, see if that solves the problem, if not try what is going on with the switch on and off see if that fixes it, if not maybe it is the pioneer, you are the first i have seen with this problem and i have followed every page of this thread =P, also if you dont know a good spot for a switch a perfect spot is where the dimmer and traction control buttons are, there are 2 empty buttons right there, pop one of the empty buttons out, have them drill a hole, file the inside of the plastic piece (for fitment purposes of the switch) and put the switch there, that is a perfect spot =P

They said they would do the bypass in a way that i wouldnt need to use the switch. I asked them to remove the deck to send to pioneer electronics to have them fixed or send me another one. The guys that installed said: if they remove the bypass it stills restarts if u drive. If they unplug the navigation cable it works, but i dont want to stay without nav.
Thanks for the idea for the switch..i'll keep that in mind

Hi

I recently ordered a double din headunit and metra adapter but have just been contacted by the supplier telling me that the metra kit is incompatible with automatic climate controls, only manual.

Could some one let me know what the difference is between auto and manual climate control? im not sure if its just called something different in the US to the UK but ive allways thought that A/C was manual and climate control where i set my desired car temp was climate control.

Prob is that ive already taken delivery of my head unit. If it isnt compatibe with my climate control then will i just lose climate control functionality or will it not work completly? i dont really ever use the auto setting on my ac anyway. its not like the weather over here gets all that hot. lol

Thanks for any help!

Clarion? I don't think they're too good, but then again I've never used one.

I think you would lose any and all A/C and heater operation. You could try it and tell us what happens. If all else fails just sell the kit on ebay.

Speaking of updates. Does anyone know the current update version? I think the last time I updated it was 1.3.

Thanks.

I wanted to thank everyone here for all the help with the Metra! Especially J Owens, Rollerblds, and RotaryResurection! The info has been of an immense help. Just installed a single din Premier unit with SWI, Bluetooth mic, and USB input for ipod. I have the Bose, so I went for the spliced RCA route, and it is crystal clear with no negative feedback (did run my own grounds for everything). Also ran a set of RCA's and remote wire to the trunk (bazooka tube and amp are back home in NewMex right now), but it seems that with a decent HU w/ high volt preouts the Bose system comes to life! Lots more bass and a much inproved and clearer sound!

Rollerblds, I remember you posting something about running your mic to the tiny vent under the steering wheel, which is where I ran mine. Are you pleased with it there? And did you mount it behind the vent or outside it? I mounted mine behind it with the mic facing right at it. Only made a couple of calls so far, and people can hear me fine when stopped, but when I'm driving I think their getting feed back from the engine or something and can hardly hear me anymore.

Overall, WAY impressed with the sound improvement over stock! I'm an audiophile and I'm stoked to have some decent sound in my whip!!! Thanks again for all the help!

Under the ashtray, scraped away the paint in a spot and ran a sheet metal screw. 14 gauge for everything; SWI, H/U, ground from the harness, and pin 10.
