MOD - Sirius Radio in Ashtray w/ swivel (PICS)
I compelted my first real mod after many nights of scratching my head and not giving up - lol.
Okay - so first and foremost - I had absolutely no clue what I was doing when I started this. I was inspired by this post:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ght=Sirius+Ash.
I got the StarMate Replay for xmas, and took it to Circuit City (had free install there). I told them that I wanted it in the ashtray, to make it happen.
Well, they put it in, but I just wasn't satisfied with it. So I decided to reinstall it myself.
Thanks to anyone on this board that gave me advice on the fiberglass part. I didn't have the foggiest clue what I was doing, but I think it turned out okay.
As for the paint, I was going for the piano black look. Hmmm - It didn't turn out the way I expected, so I plan to remove it and repaint flat black. Oh
well.
The mount allows me to swivel the radio around, and allows enough clearance to close the ashtray when the radio isn't in.
I know it's not the prettiest installation, but I'm happy with it! Read below for details... and let me know what you think.... but you'll have to excuse me because I'm going for a drive to Area 33!
Circuit City Install.
I removed everything according to JRH13NJ's post.
I then dremmel'd the heck out of the ashtray frame and lid until I ended up with this:
I then fiberglassed my own ashtray / radio frame. I took apart the window mount kit that came with the Sirius radio, and used the front swivel & mount plate
(which is also fiberglassed to my new radio frame).
What am I doing?
Painted (this is soooo getting repainted)
Installed w/ no radio
Installed w/ lid closed
Installed w/ radio
What I listen too
