MP3 player

Does the stock Boss system play MP3s??? I don't want to burn MP3s on a CD and find out I can't listen to it.

The stock single disc player does not play MP3's. You need to buy the MP3 player for the 8.

It will if you burn the mp3s into audio format (redbook).

If you want to burn the mp3s as mp3s, you'll need the MP3 player installed, which runs around $250(?).

I have the stock indash 6 disc changer system. So all these pple talking about MP3s installed the MP3 player? I think I will just save my money and get an MP3 player/DVD player and do some system upgrade.

yeah, the OEM mp3 player costs less than the 6 disk cd changer and plays more songs.

most people don't bother with aftermarket because there really isn't a way to have it work with the car without having custom work done.

Yup, this is correct but then they wouldn't be considered MP3's anymore. That would be you run of the mill CD audio disk, and can play in any car, including the rx-8.

Right again, if you have MP3's this seems like a reasonable way to go. Some go so far as setting up an iPod. Search for "ipod ice-link" should get you some hits to investigate that option.

Any way of upgrading the Bose 6-disc changer to also play MP3s?
(Yes, I still want the 6-disc changer, but I want it to play MP3s as well as audio cds...)

Wait for Mazda to introduce a 6-disc changer module with MP3 capability.

With the PIE you can tap into an external portable MP3 player via RCA or headphone jack and keep your 6 CD changer. $100 solution if you already have a player, not a bad way to go.

Sounds interesting...
Another thing crossed my mind; Wouldn´t it help exchanging the laser, after all it´s the lasers ability to read the different formats were talking about. ?

I don't know about exchanging lasers but if you want to play mp3 cd's, swapping head units and not lasers would seem to be the way to go since there is already an MP3 player head unit.

If you have an IPOD or similar just buy the FM transmitter. You can tune into the FM frequency and play your music on the mp3 player. No need to change anything then!
