Thanks. Hopefully one of these days I'll have some time to take some better pics of v2. The whole trunk PC is gone and have hidden the new one under my seat. Finally got my hands on a Mini-ITX PM mobo and I'm more then happy now. The true test will be the summer. The prob I was having is that it's really hard to use fans effectively in AZ. Due to the lack of humidity all the fans due is blow the hot air around instead of really cooling it. Hopefully a quick blast of the AC at start up will solve that. Won't really know till it's pushing 130F inside cabin.

Do you get any glare on the screen? I'm debating between putting a screen where you have yours or one in the ashtray area. In my last car (03 Celica) I had the screen in the double DIN where the radio was but I always got glare. I would think that having the screen higher up would get even more glare.

Very nice install :-) I'm jealous.

Boxcar -- BTW that is amazingly beautiful. And the first time I have seen someone do exactly what I had planned for my car. I have so many questions since you did do this yourself. Is there anyway you can do a short rightup on how you made the piece, more pics or a guide you followed over on mp3car>? I almost cut up my center dash piece to do the same but i was so nervous that i never did. IN fact it was out of my car for about 6 months and my friends kept asking. I finally put it back in yesterday to get some warrantee work done.

But I like my day job. lol Thank you for the compliment. I've been trying to talk some of the local 8s into letting me play with their cars but no takers so far. I want try a couple more things while the process is still fairly fresh in my head. No takers yet but I'll keep bugging them

I haven't really tried putting anything that low to check for glare. You could always trying putting a pda or some other device with a LCD down there and drive around to see what kind of light it picks up if any. As far as mine goes I don't have any real issues with glare. I did at first but I used a small piece of door trim to angle the screen down ever so slightly.

Thanks man. I am a terrible teacher! All I can really tell you is what I did. I spent at least 3 months scanning the fabrication threads over at MP3car.com. After getting past my visions of grandure I settled on something I was willing to attempt and excepted the fact that I was possibly throwing away $90 for the dash piece and over a bill on supplies and tools. Once I could except the loss the fear went away and I went to work on what I had in mind. I tried to stay with the original form and always kept in mind the function of the piece. The fact that I wanted the screen to still be able to twist left and right, how far back the din went, how much did the screen go up and lean back, all to avoid marking the piece through daily operation. Then I just went at it. Took me over a week to complete. I did learn the hard way that the longer I set it down the harder it was to get back in the groove. Hope that helps some.

So far it's great. I really don't have anything to compare it to as it is also my first. MP3car has an LCD section in thier forum. I'm sure you could find plenty of reviews there. Don't forget that like here you will always find more complaints then praises.

Haven't had time to find a proper ground on v2 yet. At the moment it's just going to a screw behind the seat. The audio is fine but the screen has some noise now. The old setup was grounded to the right of the indentation in the trunk and about 6 inches towards the front. Had no screen noise even at a rough idle. Please keep in my that is on my car. I really don't know if it's going to be the best place on anyone elses.

I wish those gauges were functional. It's just a background image at the moment. I need to finish what I started before I put $200-300 into a scanaliser.

It's worth a shot to try working with what you have already. There is a sticky at the top of this section that will help you find a proper ground. Make sure you ground your PC case as well.

I hope to get my hands on one eventually. I have no turbo and don't see having the cash for it anytime soon so it's hard to justify spending a bunch of money on really cool digital gauges.

Do you know how acurate mpg and temps are with the scanalizer? I got to see a canzoomer and canscan in action but it seemed like the mpg was all over the chart.

Boxcar,

How is the smaller processor doing? Is it keeping up with the workload you have on it?

And if you don't mind, what workload do you have it doing? MP3s and Nav?

I was recently looking at the low power AMD Turions, which are getting pretty cheap but they still draw some power. Costs are about right for the processor and MB, and I am more familiar with the hardware. Much cheaper than Intel M stuff.

I was concerned that the VIA processor may be too light weight...

the temps seem to be damn accurate, as to the mpg, the last version the scanalizer is pretty close. much better than the last.

I hate to welcome you to the forums this way.. but use the SEARCH function at the top of your screen before asking about issues. Chances are it's been talked about at length already. Also, try to post in a forum that has something to do with what you're talking about. Here, we've been talking about putting a computer in the 8, which unfortunately has nothing to do with seats.

I'm guessing you are using a DC to AC inverter?
