My new trunk part 1

Okay well I am basically finished phase 1 of my sound upgrade. Added a 10 inch Alpine Type R 1022d in a 4080 enclosure which is driven by the kicker 400.1 and a set of Kenwood KFC-X1710P comps in the doors which is driven by the kicker 350.1. Next phase will involve a set of MB QUART PCE-213 5.25 comps in the rear and a nice pair of premier 6 by 9's I have laying around. Not sure what I am going to drive these with yet though. The system sounds loud and clear and I am very pleased so far. Probably don't really need phase 2 but all I need is an amp and I am ready to go. Give me some feedback and oh ignore the blue speaker wire going to the sub, I cut it too short and haven't got around to putting in a longer run yet so it won't tuck away quite right for now

oh ya, there's thoughts but already in the $$$$$ hole - lol
I must say I really like the 4080 box really nice use of limited space and very good quality but $300 + the price of another sub = will have to wait.

Jealous,. I put a 12'' type r in my custom created 4080 box..i didnt realize how big/deep the sub would be , and I really dont think the box is big enough for it, so it doesnt hit as hard. I was wondering tho whether if all 12'' subs have the same alignment for holes to secure the sub to the box?? Then I was thinking of just getting a new sub..I'm not sure tho.. I would assume the alignment issue isnt a problem, considering people mount a number of different subs in 4080's box, but im not sure, someone please let me know, thanks.,...greg

Most of the subs will line up, and even if they don't it's easy enough to tilt them and start fresh holes

looks pretty clean.
You mentioned you're getting a hissing sound. Is it a hiss or a high pitched whine?
whine = bad ground
hiss = ??

I definitely suggest a line converter though, if you're running off the stock bose headunit. Maybe that'll help.

It's definitely a hiss, it is there as long as the amp is powered on. The hiss will only go away if I turn the gain to almost zero and gets real bad as I turn up the gain. Sound quality is great aside from that but I need to crank the volume in order not to hear the hiss, cranked volume is good and all but that;s beside the point.

I will do some research on line converters the one you used seems well suited for the Bose any other suggestions out there?

Any reason you're using a mono amp to power your entire front stage? So much for stereo separation huh? And how are you going to fit MBQ 5.25" components and Premier 6x9's in the rear? Maybe I'm reading something wrong? Looks great though.

And as for your problem. It sounds as though you're attempting to amplify the hell out of a weak signal. Using high-level inputs I take it?

Oh and let us know if you have any amp cooling problems with your amps like that. I'm thinking of doing something similar with my Kicker 700.5 and was a little worried. Next hour long drive you have, see if either shut down. Although you ARE using two class D amps.... (generates less heat for same power out)

Cooling may or may not be an issue time will tell, you can't tell from the pics but the plexiglass does not cover the entire inset amp area, I left a 3 inch opening where the jack storage area is - 2 fold so I can cool the amps with some air flow and so I can still access the jack.

As for the MB Quartz components - oh ya they'll fit I have just confirmed that with a little creative thinking - just fit, pics coming soon maybe a week or 2 when I start the next stage of the project.

ZX350.2 is powering the kenwood comps in the front.
ZX400.1 mono is powering the Alpine sub

In hind sight I kinda wish I had choosen something like a 700.5 but I already had the mono amp and wasn't thinkin of adding the mb quartz and 6 by 9s at the onset of the upgrade and there is only so much space to work with - well we'll see how this all shakes out
