Unhappy my stock stereo is silent [fixed, mostly]

last night, I drove home from a friend's house listening to the stereo as normal.

this morning, I started my 8, no sound from the stereo. everything looked normal, but the speakers produced no output. it wasn't muted or turned down or anything like that.

there are 3 fuses that are listed as having to do with the audio system, but two of those also run other accessories that are working. I will check the 3rd fuse in the morning. if that fuse is good, I'll have to make an appointment with the dealer.

anybody seen this before?

ok, sure enough, the fuse was blown. I put in the spare, it blew that one too, immediately. this was fuse #11 in the driver's kickpanel.

the only two mods I've done to this car were to wire my radar detector into the overhead console, and to wire the fog lights so they will come on with the accessory. the fog light one worried me, but the foglights still come on. later today I'll probably try to pull out the fuse panel in the engine bay to make sure my fog light mod isn't shorting out.

i am having similar problems with my car. i pulled the stereo to install an rca adapter for a bass box. but now nothing works. the a/c fan will blow and the dimmer lights come on but thats it. i checked all the fuses and they are fine. i pulled the stereo out again to make sure the plugs were connected properly. i am clueless. does anyone have any suggestions?

my problem is definitely not my foglight mod. it's all still connected nicely. even if it came loose, there's nothing for it to short on. it's all plastic under the fuse box.

fixed

well, they replaced the amp in the back dash. it took a while to get that in, it went on back order. then they found out that wasn't the sole cause of the problem. they ended up having to remove the amp from the driver's door. then the stereo would work (except for the large speaker in the driver's door). so they ordered a new amp. they installed that amp a week later, now the stereo works. somehow the two amps were shorting each other out. seems really strange.

the only bummer now is that I found a screw they forgot to put back in! it was sitting in one of the cupholders in the center console. it's a large screw, about an inch long. I'll have to call them on monday.
