I called my dealership in early April. They said to call Navteq. Called Navteq and I was told they are finishing up with new disc and would be available May or most likely June. I was also told the price would be $200. Thats all I can say. Believe it when we see it. I bought my car about a month ago and my dealership will give me a new one when its available.

"The silence is deafening, isn't it? I'm beginning to think I purchased a $2,000 boat anchor."

My boat anchor is fully submersed. I still do not have any DVD '02, '04 or'05, with still no idea as to when the dealer can get me one!! But the Masda emblem is proudly displayed on the screen. Give me a break!

$200 bucks for an update... thats high. If our Nav system is really dated for 2002 shouldn't we get some kind of discount on the update? I mean, I was under the impression when I purchased my car in 2004 the Nav system was also for 2004.

Well, hell! At least you have the updated firmware! I couldn't even squeeze that out of Mazda!

Could I use this thread to ask for a discount in a rx-8 with the Navi at the dealership? You think they'll buy it? :D

Actually I think I have an updated late-2003 firware but a 2002 map. There's an info section on the nav menu.

do you know if the dvd drive will read burned DVDs? if you own the system then you already paid for that disc that no one has given you so I think youd be ok using a burned one legally. i guess i could burn mine and check in my drive in the car myself, myabe i can check that tomorrow. if all you need is the map (and im pretty sure there is only one version) then i coudl try to copy mine if its not a DVD9, i dont have any DVD+R DLs only the DVD+r (4.7GB not 9ish). if it is infact a dual layer then id have to charge you the cost of the blank disc (6-10 bucks) and shippng charges (2 bucks).

of course if this is highly illegal i cant do that.

in that case go to mazda and bitch at them and get them to refund you the cost of the nav system since they have made it useless by not giving you a disc. at the very least, they lost a 200 dollar disc that belongs to you. take legal action.

Thanks for the offer, I don't know about copying it. Read in another thread that you need special burner and software. I am taking your advice, I just requested from the dealer a $2000 refund for the NAV. See if that stirs the pot, next step will be legal.

ya if the new disks ever come out we should just get one copy & burn a copy for everyone who wants one...ill even give them away for free, that way im not selling them illegally. haha that would really screw them over.

Because it shows the Mazda emblem on startup. The original firmware issued with the early build cars doesn't do that. Your firmware version is accessible through the menu system - somewhere under Setup, I think.

I just talked to NavTeq today. They claim a map update will be available this summer, and that you'll get it through Mazda. Time will tell...

I have been talking to my dealer and they have been cool about helping me. They have put in a dealer question to mazda about when they will have the new maps and whats the hold up.

Navteq has told me once AGAIN that the updates are in Mazdas hands just need to be handed out.

This is REALLY getting outrageous!!

I JUST put in an order for my '05 and I probably won't even get the updated disc. How pathetic is that! I can only imagine how pissed I'd be if I"d been wating over a YEAR for this stupid disc...

AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Sorry, just had to vent.

Been over a month now since I purchased car and still no DVD old or new. Dealer has no idea when they can get one. But once a day now I flip open the screen which proudly displays the Mazda emblem and I sing...ZOOM...ZOOM...ZOOM. Now that's worth $2000!!

Just got off the phone with Navteq. No disk for at least the next several months. I give up, a $2000 piece of trash since I have no disk at all. Ultimatum time with the dealer!
