Actually, I have an MP3 player on order from Trussville, and when it gets here I'll see if it has AUX-IN pads suitable for soldering.
well in essence electricity is not the biggest coz u could use a high volume electric converter, it would be still the sound and in essence again the video to switch from nav to "auxiliar" wich you could use a video signal spliter/ selector but to transform the one from computer.. resolution, refresh rate, ect..

As for boot-up, not a problem. Windows actually boots up quite quickly if you disable about two-thirds of its services, which would be totally unnecessary in a car. Betcha I could get it to boot faster than the NAV system.
true that...

This is why I want to know what inputs the LCD display takes. The little computers output composite and S-Video as well as standard analog RGB... if the LCD can take one of those it'd make the installation much easier.

Eh, who am I fooling, this'll never work.

it could work its just depending on how much work you want to put into it!!

there is a book and a website that i can't recall right now that describes the car totally piece by piece, thus telling hoe to take things apart and put it together. If we can get a hold of this, it will respond your question and many other w/o taking apart anything in anybody's car.

This guy said he could make a switch. And than I could install another dvd rom. But he needed the schematic and I gave him the wrong one. Well it wasn't the one he exactly need he wanted one that showed the connecters. And than you just plug his unit into the head unit of the car and use an FM modulator. I think it was like 400 bucks for the unit. Sorry if you guys have already seen this.

The other day I brought my wife and son to look at the RX-8. The salesman who came out to talk to us (after we had been there for over 10 minutes and were preparing to leave) barely spoke English. I guess he closes the sale using an interpreter?

Oh and another thing. That guy told me he would give me a discount too since he hadn't done an RX-8 yet. So I would bring it up to him. I just had problems getting the schematic from the tech. So I just gave up. I think he said he would give me 10% off.

this is very nice.. did not know that existed.. good feature. a bit expensive, at this rate you would have to pay around $3,500 for a nav system to ply movies (2k factory, 1.5k aftermarket) where if we where to just buy a letsay kenwood on for 1400 we had all of that .. but ofcourse nothing beats factory look..
wonder.. it says the sound passes via radio frecuency? i would hate to be in a place with really bad reception ..

Let us know about the site (when you recall). This would be a big help on several things I want to work on.

That's less than half of what someone quoted me here in Colorado. It would be so sweet though!! I just may do it at that price. Imagine being stuck in traffic and flipping on the news, sporting event or watching your favorite concert DVD? Priceless!! :D

yap but it is a clean fast way to do it. i think i would do the module and them a ps2 but ia m afraid of the electrick inversion. that could be worth it, play games, movies, mp3

yet even better just thoguth of this.. get the module unit and plug a laptop to it! play movies, HUGE mp3 list ext, ext, and when the time comes you can then use that laptop with some software to make changes in the 8 management system (ie once u have a turbo).. great ideas:D

I was thinking of just getting a single DVD rom and mounting it under the passenger seat. Those are cheap and I could easily swap dvd's and avoid the big price of changers. Are you guys planning on mounting a dvd changer in the trunk? I wish there was a hack to convert the stock one to play either nav or dvd.

I prefer a hack to have our stock nav dvd player play dvds
I dont want a dvd player in my trunk
maybe I'll do a custom set up by the dash but I want to be able to change dvds from driver seat hopefully

do a ps2 (or can wait for the ps3) in the glob compartment..

our nav syst, can't be hacked to play movies, now i remember reading some about it.. thats why even if u go aftermarket, you will have to separate units, one is the nav player(hidden somewhere) and then the dvd player in a single din at the dash

This TVTuner is great. Just think of the possibilities...
I am definately interested in this. Is it sad that the only reason I will buy a PS2 will be to go in my car?

or like i said do a laptop..

You could also do an x-box.. now you know that they have a hard drive right? well with some small internal modifications, you can use that hard drive as if it was one of a computer, or even put a computer one with way more space(200mb) full of say movies, mp3 or what ever..
