Has anyone bought the NavTV-Tuner from avelectronics yet? I'm wondering how good it is, how easy the install was, etc. If someone gets it let the rest of us know because I think a lot of people are looking to buy but are hesitant that it may not work out correctly.

DVD & TV Tunner for NAV system
I recently added a TV Tuner & 10 DVD changer to my RX-8.
It's great for morning news & sports. The DVD player comes in handy in long road trips.

Go to AVElectronic they sold me the equipment:

Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks How hard was it to remove the back seat?
Oh, and what about the remote? It looked kinda fugly on AVElectronic's site. Where do you have it mounted? Does it look okay?
And did you get the rear-view camera? That sounded like one cool gadget.

To remove the back seat you need to loosen two bolts (~13mm), that's all. Very simple.
The remote is ok but I do plan on getting a universal remote.
I keep it in the center console.
I purchased the extra 7 " LCD for the rear and was mounted using a goose neck (using one bolt from the driver seat).

FernandoGator, could you give a more in-depth review of that Nav-TV unit? Specifically, some of the questions I had were:
- How's the sound and video quality?
- How long does it take to switch inputs? In the video on the site, it shows someone mashing several buttons (including one on the console!) for like half a minute to get it to switch.
- Did run into any snafu's with the installation, or features that weren't what you expected?
- Did you get a rearview camera, and if so, how useful do you find it in an 8?
- How is the TV reception?
- Does it use one each of the inputs and outputs to connect to the nav system and LCD?
- Anything else notworthy about it that's not advertised?
- Do you work for AVElectronic? I had to ask...

wow that great! i have a few questions, however...
1) was it pretty simple to install? it says there's only 4 wires to cut, or splice into
2) how good is the sound? i guess it uses an FM modulator but is there a way to splice it directly into the Bose?
3) where did you place the input switch?

1) was it pretty simple to install? it says there's only 4 wires to cut, or splice into
ANSWER: I had someone install it for me. The guy was very professional and had previous experience with the AVElectronic NAV-TV units. Yes, they only cut 4 wires at the NAV unit.
2) how good is the sound? i guess it uses an FM modulator but is there a way to splice it directly into the Bose?
ANSWER: Perfect sound since they use an FM modulator.
3) where did you place the input switch?
ANSWER: I have a switch to change between the NAV and TV/DVD video signals. This was placed at the left side of the steering wheel where Mazda left three spots for future/misc switches.
4) (previous question) Did the vibration affect the image quality?
ANSWER: No for the DVD. The TV tuner does loose signal if the car is moving.

BLUESNOWMONKEY WROTE:
FernandoGator, could you give a more in-depth review of that Nav-TV unit? Specifically, some of the questions I had were:
- How's the sound and video quality?
ANSWER: Excellent sound and video signal for DVD player. TV tuner is OK.
- How long does it take to switch inputs? In the video on the site, it shows someone mashing several buttons (including one on the console!) for like half a minute to get it to switch.
ANSWER: Instant. There’s no delay, I just press a switch and in milliseconds it switches.
- Did run into any snafu's with the installation, or features that weren't what you expected?
ANSWER: It took a while (a couple of hours) to get the instructions from my Mazda dealer on how to remove the radio. They needed to tap into the antenna. There’s a locking bolt on the left side by the driver. AVElectronic should now have this information. Ask for Sam. The video was getting out of sync when I switched between the NAV and DVD but this problem disappeared when I grounded the DVD player.
- Did you get a rearview camera, and if so, how useful do you find it in an 8?
ANSWER: I did not get it. Perhaps in the future…
- How is the TV reception?
ANSWER: It’s OK. Not wonderful but it does a reasonable job.
- Does it use one each of the inputs and outputs to connect to the nav system and LCD?
ANSWER: Check with AVElectronic.
- Anything else notworthy about it that's not advertised?
ANSWER: Nope.
- Do you work for AVElectronic? I had to ask...
ANSWER: NO. I live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I drove to Atlanta to have this system installed.
