Navigation?

Hey how's everyone doing? Anyway I am still fairly new to my 8 as to it only has 850 miles on it. Now I seen and heard people talking about their navigation playing dvd movies? Is this possible? I mean I don't want to put a dvd in where the navigation cd is supposed to be to where it messes the system up. I wouldn't watch a DVD while driving my beautiful 8 around, I just wanted to know. Instead of watching a movie I would rather be powershifting around town! Well thanx in advance if anyone can answer my question.

It can be done, but I dont know all the technicalities in making it work. Try a search or look through the electronics threads.

...enjoy that 8....

navi has a dvd drive, but cannot decode the files.

you'll need to get a dvd drive to play movies, and some hardware to splice into the navi input. It'll run you around $500 or so to display onto the navi screen and $100 or so for a dvd player.

Be forewarned, in some states it's illegal to have a movie running where the driver can see it.

Illegal in Tennessee. If the Polizia see a DVD playing in a vehicle..and even think the driver can see it...ticket-time.

If you put a regular DVD in the drive it'll cause the flex capacitor to malfunction.

I've thought of putting in a DVD player & TV Turner in my RX8 in the far future and then building a PC for my car with wireless internet, wireless keyboard, mouse, game pad, etc...but this is now making me rethink that.

Trust me, I will NOT be useing that stuff while driving...NO WAY, but I thought it would be fun for the passengers when taking long trips or if I have to go with the Mss while my Miami Dolphins are playing I can at least watch some of the game...I might have to just do it for her car and not mine.

used to hookup a dvd player but now a modded xbox is in its place...just load divx movies on there...it doesn't take long to copy my dvds to divx...so I have more space on the hard drive.

I'll post pics when I get home

i use the avelectronics unit and it works great. i have a ps2 & a dvd player hooked up to it and the quality on the screen is better than most tv screens you can buy for in your car.

MOST states do not have laws against it...in fact I believe only California does...the other states there is the simple 'distractions' restrictions...but that could be anything, cellphones, makeup, eating, billboards, thus it is not really enforced
