Navigation DVD Update
#26
Thew, all your links are bad. Please test and fix.
Does anyone know what the heck magellen is talking about? I've got a first-run vehicle (i.e., it was on the first shipment over back in July 03.) As far as I know, my nav hardware is the same as everyone's, and other first shipment people have gotten the software upgrade that gives you the split screen. Not sure why you would need hardware upgrade for that. My does zoom in at intersections.
Can anyone verify what magellen is saying, or is he just on the wacky tobacky?

wacky tobacky nope but maybe tomacco...mmm tomacco
I'm trying to help people out...there are two HARDWARE units...the Ancient one (which I used to have) which is the CN-VM4360A and the new one the CN-DV2300N which most people have
the CN-DV2300N if not updated is running THE SAME software as the ANCIENT CN-VM4360A but the diffence between them is the newer hardware the CN-DV2300N is much FASTER and much higher resolution (does NOT blow up the image to fit the screen like the ANCIENT one does)
the new one CN-DV2300N is capable of the software update...the CN-VM4360A from what I know does not
The NEW SOFTWARE gives us better voice guidance, splitscreened zoomins on turns, and keyboard style inputing (instead of video game like scrolling)...this software MAY run on the ancient one...but if it does it will run really slow and crappy
This is the reason why my dealership...when I told them how bad it was had to order a new unit...they couldn't simply perform the software update that works to add features on later builds
did that clarify it? or do I have to do a powerpoint presentation?

I have an august 03 build, no split screen but zooms at turns. The route recalculation is pretty fast. How do I find out which model I have? Do I need to remove the cover from the back console to get to the back of the unit?

The CN-DV2300N is an AFTER MARKET unit, it is NOT oem. If your dealer installed a CN-DV2300N then everyone would like to see how. This would be huge.
Why would they install an after market player under new car warranty?
I think wacky tobacky

Dude, I don't disbelieve that you have a different unit. More power to ya. But I have trouble believing that it is necessary to get the new unit to upgrade software. In fact, you are not the first to mention getting the split screen capability; others got the upgrade last winter to solve software problems they were having. They were delighted with the results, yet never got their hardware upgraded. I realize that over time, computer hardware becomes obsolete and unable to deal with new software. But I have trouble believing this happened in one year at the very first software upgrade up the system. That just doesn't make sense. My nav software runs plenty fast; virtually every fuction and computation is instantaneous, so there is clearly CPU/RAM capacity to take on greater functionality. If and when others find it impossible to upgrade our software without getting new hardware then I will admit you are right, a true visionary, and I will apologize. Until then I think you're blowing smoke. Your use of hyperbole like "ancient" doesn't help either. It gives the impression you are overstating your case.

alright I'm sick of defending my point...be happy with the shitty navigation you have
if you simply want my help to get the newest system I'll upload scans of my service receipts so you can aid your service dept by giving them the warranty codes
peace

Well you didn't explain it that way in either of your two original posts. Thanks for the clarification.
Personally I think the guy charging $50 for what is maybe 15 minutes of his time to re-flash a unit is a total rip-off.
