Navigation sys. mod = void warranty?
I was just wondering if making a modification to the navigation system, like adding a switch between video inputs would void the warranty? I want to get the nav and make modifications to it (i.e add an external dvd player) but I also don't want to void the warranty by doing so.
Also, how much worse is the sound quality between the standard and the BOSE? If it's a lot I would look a lot harder at getting the touring instead of the sports.
thanks,
greg

You can probably get away with adding a DVD player to your nav (if you can find someone who knows how to tap into it), and your warranty will probably be ok as long as the tap is hidden in the dash and Mazda techs don't find it if something goes wrong.
As for the standard versus the Bose, the Bose may be a bit better. BUT, neither system is outstanding. I'd suggest you go for the standard stereo, and if you are really into music, replace the head unit and speakers when adaptors become available - most likely sometime later this year. However, if you're not an audiophile, the Bose not "too" bad either.

NAV/DVD
Here is a website that makes a box specifically for the RX8 to turn your nav into DVD and TV tuner. says it requires only cutting four wires. doesnt sound to bad but its kind of expensive

Hope this helps

yeah I saw that unit and was probably what I was going to use. I think I'll just stick with the sports package without the nav. I can't really bring myself to pay ~1600 more for a slight upgrade in stereo and a moonroof. Thanks for your help guys..getting mine next week sometime

Or be like me and buy the sports package with the Nav. I planned on ripping out the stereo and replacing everything but the headunit. After 5 weeks of ownership I've decided the base sound system is actually pretty decent, and I'm lacking motivation to redo the whole system.
I do plan on getting the avelectronic box though. PS2 on the NAV screen would just be too slick.
