Navigation System Error

Navigation System Error
We just purchased a new 2004 RX-8, with the navigation system. When it boots up, it shows a system date of 2002, and the maps are well out of date. When we expressed our displeasure, the salesman said that this is the most up-to-date software there is.
I don't believe it. How can I find the release we have, both of the operating software and of the database, and how can I determine if it is, in fact, the current levels?
Thanks.

Sadly, it's true... we're still waiting for the updated map DVD from the vendor (Navteq)- they've been delayed for many months now. I'm curious as to what the '05s are being delivered with though... anybody with an '05 & nav check their map dates yet?

unfortunately the map discs are from 2k2...and were supposed to be updated early summer but the company Navteq is miserable...get a hold of them and COMPLAIN...I gave up a long time ago
as for firmware version...that is a whole other story, do you get split screen when you are coming up on an exit?

Nav in the RX-8 is a joke, seriously for the money that you spend on the "option" it should have more updates to the DVD and more features. I feel that the car has like "Mazda Nav LITE" instead of having a nice full featured navigation system. How many of you got the JD Power questionaire about the Mazda Navigation? I got mine and scored the Mazda nav all low and in the comments put "not worth the extra 2-3K grand for the upgrade."

I checked online with Navteq and the site said I had the latest updates. I also e-mailed them asking for a more complete user guide; they said it was Mazda's responsibility.

DVD Version
8.21.20.3
Software
U9.139.2004.1
and the actual DVD disc has a version number on it of:
1.7.33.2
However, this number may not be what you're looking for.
Hope this helps.

DVD Version 3.18.20.2
and
Software Version U9.95.2003.1
is grossly out of date?

I submitted a data correction to Navteq a couple months ago. (My subdivision was about 1/4 mile out of place. Pissed me off that my house was the only inaccuracy I've found so far.)
They fixed the data set and will be issuing new version in May.
You still have to get it from Mazda parts though. They dont sell updates direct.
