New JDM OEM Nav dash panel for aftermarket systems
#226
CarPC
Truemagellen, I am stepping back into this thread after a long skim of the posts on installing aftermarket nav with audio MP3 control in my RX8 without removing the existing HU and such. Can you send me the options you discuss and what you cost/charge for the parts and labor? I am from near Minneapolis so a nice cross country drive is possible for me to to have this done.
I had been thinking of getting the ebay hood http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda...spagenameZWDVW
and just installing a carpc myself but am not sure I have the technical skills to do so. I am also worried because I had heard that the ebay (or some other version from Japan) wouldnt work with bose systems.
Thanks,
Jeager (Pete)

That hood is unfinished and has no retractable mechanism enclosed. So you will have to pay over $100 extra for a retractable mechanism...and you might as well get the piece I have in stock . Plus it is a factory part (Mazda Japan) so it has the factory dash finish instead of a generic plastic finish.
Then you install a 7inch LCD display. I can also sell you a carpc already setup and preloaded with software. The install is very easy for this. Essentially the most difficult part will be mounting the car pc which is also an easy process...you have to decide where you want to put it (in the trunk, glove compartment, under the seat, etc.). Many options . Installing the NAv hood is a breeze actually.
This will not affect your stock Head unit whatsoever as we will still use it for sound (using audio input PIE).
Best Regards,
Jason

I have this in my car (came with it), and am thinking about selling it. I just don't like the stock navigation system (old and boring look. Plus a cheap LCD display). I wanna go the carPC route, but am unsure if I will just reuse this housing for the LCD or not. Seems like a lot of work. We'll see....
