New JDM OEM Nav dash panel for aftermarket systems

Wow that was quick. Great work Ace! Do you mind posting the dimensions of your screen in mm? We are trying to figure out if some UMPCs work in there...is there a bit more space in there? (width and height?).
I see the sCANalyser fired up
This is awesome...what are you using for input, is it a touchscreen, touchpad, ball?

If someone wants a video of how this panel works, let me know. But it's quite simple: push the cover upwards, rotate the screen until vertical. To close, rotate screen until horizontal, close cover.

This is the touchscreen that I am using:
MM400 V2 VGA Touchscreen
The casing is 178x130x27 mm. Fits like a glove. But I don't think that anything bigger will fit....

wow that thing looks so pimp!! definitly my next mod after I put my body kit on next summer. Mind if I ask how much (car PC.. software.. screen.. panel) costed at the end?? do you have it hook up w/ your OEM system? ( to use the steering wheel mounted controls)?

here's a stupid question from my end.... so since it is a car PC running on window. Do you have to wait a couple min to boot up the computer ( after you start your car)? how long does it take?? and when it shuts off w/ the car, does it turn off right away or turn takes a cuople min like shutting down a desktop

The steering wheel controls work for the volume, since I have the line-out of the PC connected to the stock HU with the PIE+RCA. You can wait until the proper Car2PC adaptor comes out, if you want more control....
As for boot-up/shutdown: my CarPC (far from perfect) boots-up in under 1' (just barely though), and shuts down in about 20". I load up a LOT of things, but I don't want a bare-bones system, I want a lil' show
And be careful of the various "sleep" modes (like hibernation or STR): the PC still consumes a little energy, so if the car stays put for a long time (about a week), you will have battery problems...

"Hybernation" writes the everything in RAM to the hard drive on shutdown and powers down completely. The prior running state, all programs and data are, are restored to operating memory on startup so you are back to where you were on shutdown. There may always be some minor power drawn by the mainboard but it's not the same as going into any of the other sleep states that require keeping the RAM live.

Heres a new question regarding this setup--I plan on utimately going with the carpc but it'll take me few months to get all that together--right now I have TomTom - would it be possible to route TomTom through the touchscreen in the interim?
#215
do you you mean hack the tom tom for video/vga out and control it from another screen?
for now you could get the dash panel and mount the tom tom mount on it although my guess is it wouldn't retract since the tom tom is very thick correct?

Well--the TomTom sits in there nicely as is--the door will close over it if I fold it down--the issue that I have right now is that I believe I pulled the power cord out or something when I removed the radio because the display and the whole center section is out. I can control the audio from the steering wheel but the center is out. I'll troubleshoot it somemore tomorrow.

Post pics when if you can I'm curious to see it
Lets see...the center is out means you disconnected the small cable on the side of the head unit that allows the face of the HU to control the HU...probably doesn't light up either I'm guessing unless it is only slightly out. Won't hurt anything btw...just click it back and you should be good to go (click it in with battery disconnected of course).

Hmm...well since this isn't a discussion on the dash panel per se lets start a new thread so that we can bring attention to the guys who love to fix head units.
If you don't mind PMing me the link I can jump in and I'll send a few guys to it you may know what is up.

This panel also has what the motorised NAV panel hasn't: small plastic stops, where the whole rotating mechanism locks in place, so the screen doesn't move/jitter So the motor will need to overcome the resistance of these small stops (in order to click in place)...

Hi I'm interested in the motorised dash. I need to on my car and go most of the time so definitely dont have the time to take it out and adjust it to position. Has anyone any idea go about doing it?
