The firmware revision for the Metra kit is going to 1.5. It is a minor revision - all it does is allow the user to view the revision on the dash display. To view the revision, press and hold the MODE button on the HVAC control for 12 seconds. The revision will display. Release the MODE button and it will return to normal operation.
Watching the forum, it appears that several people have had trouble telling whether updates to 1.4 were successful, other than whether intermittent problems have disappeared. Now you can tell.
If you are at 1.4 and don't have clock or display problems, there is no need to update. Again, no need to update if you are already at 1.4.
