Next Gen GPS chip
I just got the Garmin GPSMAP 60CSx. It has some kinda of new sensor chip and it is super sensitive. It can pick up signals even it is inside of a building. Naturally, it works anywhere inside of your car.
You have to buy a $100 N America map to get the full point to point navigation working. No voice, but will beep you when it approach the coming turn.
What I like about it the most is that I can take it with me when I go hiking, boating or exploring a new city. Highly recommended.

I did a test today by placing 60CSX inside of the center console (behind the cup holders) with cover closed, and it was able to receive the signals without problem. Interestingly enough, it records the top speed of your trip.

the chipset is the SiRF III... and it is both sensitive and fast. All the GPS forums like products made from them because they are fast, low power, very sensitive, and WAAS-enabled. You can find products made with them at:
http://www.usglobalsat.com/
I have a usb gps with a SiRF III chipset and it smokes anything else out there. They also have models to connect to PDA's and WinCE 'puters, as well as Bluetooth.
Link to the USB model:
http://www.usglobalsat.com/item.asp?itemid=60&catid=17 $79.99
or:
http://www.buygpsnow.com/globalsat-b...abled-455.aspx $61.95
or the same thing under a different name, and comes with a free copy of Franson GPSGate:
i.Trek S3 GPS Receiver for PC (v.3.1.1 WAAS) (SIRF III) (Free GpasGate Software)
http://www.semsons.com/is3usbgpsres.html $54.99
GPSGate is a very cool app that lets you connect one gps to several different programs at the same time! Normally, you can only run 1 application per gps. Also lets you share a GPS across a network. Finally, they have a website that you can connect to and share your position with people that you authorize... what does this mean? With my broadband wireless connection, people can track my position in real time on the web... Like if I travel to visit my family a few states away, they can check my progress whenever, in case they want to pop out to run an errand but make sure they are home when I get there. I'm sure others will have many uses of their own.
I use the BU-353 USB model with my laptop (ThinkPad R50p- soon to be replaced with a smaller ThinkPad X60 convertable laptop-pen tablet model with a touch screen). I'm sure you could use the same GPS with the carputer if you have an available USB port and software live MS Streets and Trips, or my favorite, DeLorme Street Atlas 2007.
