Normal for heating/ac controls not to work with head unit removed?
Hi all:
I finally got around to pull out the head unit for doing a firmware upgrade/pie adapter job. After pulling out the head unit and putting the rest back together, diligently connecting the 2 adapters for the climate control (I need my car while the head-unit travels around CA), I realized that I can still control the fan speed, but heating doesn't work, nor is any of the leds on the a/c piece in the middle lit.
Is this normal state of affairs with the head unit removed?
It's not like I need the heating nor the a/c, but I'm just wondering if I accidently messed up something or not. I expected the display at the top to go blank, but I thought the climate system would still work.
Any insight is very much appreciated.

That's working on that position how it was before you pulled out it. I found an Rx-8 audio rebuilding(below the photo), and they said it was a very difficult work to replace the head unit with working display and climate control. I tried it: I only left the inside of the head unit in the car with longered wires in an other position to leave enough space for the new head unit. It was working about for a week , and after it went wrong. I think the higher resistance of the longer wires made the fault. I took my head unit under the centre console at the end.

Very cute remark regarding search, but after going through what I believed to be most threads on head unit removal - remarkably found by doing a search - I felt compelled to post the question. Thanks for the answer forbidden...
