Huh? You want the RX8 to have a mechanical analog odometer? or are you talking about an analog speedometer?

Cool

My 8 has two odometers digital A and B. Read your owners manual.

The RX-8 has one massive tach dead center, a digital speedometer, and on the right tunnel, right below the fake oil pressure gauge, is a digital odometer. Has a trip A, trip B, and a total mileage counter.

Actually at first I hated that the RX-8 didn't have an analog speedometer dead center, as I'm used to cars being arranged with one dead center, with the tach on the left. I kept thinking "wouldn't you care more about your speed then your revs?"

Now that I've gotten behind the RX-8, and it being my first sports car, I'm damn glad they put a massive tach dead center. Especially with a high revving engine like the rotary, it's so nice being able to see your revs at a glance. I love the digital speedometer too, once again, it's very easy to see at a glance, and you know for dead certain how fast you're going.

You can always purchase and wire up an Autometer analogue speedometer if you really wanted to.

I used to think the digital readout was annoying at first, but with time, it's actually easier to just glance down momentarily and check the speed your travelling faster then with an analogue speedometer.

It's one of the RX8's unique charms (i.e. to be different), so why would you want your car to have a analogue unit just like 90-95% of the other cars on the road?

You also get used to knowing your speed based on current gear and RPM..., I can usually feel (meaning just with sound and my peripheral vision) what speed the car is at. Not an exact science. I glance frequently at the tach, and only occasionally at the digital speedo. I personally love the way the 8 is set up.

Heck, with this car, it's fun to ignore the speedo sometimes.... :D

get the car first and drive it for a few months before you start adding and subtracting to it, trust me the engineers put together a pretty solid car...the speedometer is different but you learn to love it.
