Unhappy OEM NAV install?

Has anyone successfully install the OEM NAV for their 8 with out NAV to begin with? I have been trying to figure this out for a long time as I am trying to find out if a 06 Shinka have the Mazda NAV install thus making it perfect. Any reference to the OEM NAV system?

p.s. I can't do a search as the bandwidth in Kandahar is less then 1kbps...

it's not feasable. The car has a lot of wiring and sensors in place. You'd have to take the whole car apart to do a proper install. You're much better off buying an aftermarket navi, or trading in your car and getting one that has it already installed.

I hope his S2 will get good intel and keep him safe, and watch out for RPGs on hills.

I liked my TomTom better than the built in one. This one got my lost for 30mins in NY tonight. It gets confusing when there are multiple off ramps and it doesn't specif too good.

I was actually happy about that DIY because it proves the OEM NAV install in not impossible, just long and difficult to find all the parts. As of right now I am still leaning toward getting a 06 Shinka, then get the 06 OEM NAV or aftermarket double din types. Has anyone done a complete comparison of 04/05 VS 06 OEM NAV? I know they changed quite a few things, but I don't know all the details. Thanks.

It is not an impossible install as you said, just quite difficult. Finding all the parts is only the first step and a very expensive one. Mazmart sells the parts for more than the factory nav option itself, and that's just getting all the pieces in a big cardboard box. Then comes the installation. If you are willing to put up with taking your shiny new Shinka totally apart, then you can certainly manage it. I only know that I would not attempt this

mazda only offers the shinka + nav in japan. given the extreme difficulty & expense, u'r better off w/ an aftermarket NAV.
