Here are some pictures of the OEM Nav tray with and without my detachable Magellan Roadmate 760 portable GPS.

The Magellan Roadmate 760 is a very user friendly unit.

Touch screen

Portable: all it needs is a 12 volt source via a power outlet or hardwired like I did.
Nice thing about that is if a person goes on a trip or switches vehicles often enough it can go with very easily.

Maps are built in on the 20 GB internal hard drive

Can store addresses for three users.

Has an infrared sensor so a person can send adresses from a Palm or Pocket PC PDA.

Turn by turn directions with voice guidance.

Eventually I will upgrade to a car PC and utilize GPS with a tag on system to that.

This Tray will hold the LCD I end up going with.

It is a very nice way to ditch the suction cup mount that the portable Nav came with it makes it more integrated and opens up the view of the windshield by putting the Nav lower in the dash.

Center dash removal

In order to get the top center dash piece off a person has to:

Remove the lower tray (ash tray)

Page 1

Remove radio head unit

Page 2

Remove vent above radio

Page 3

Remove screws that hold the top center dash (two at the front corners under the vent that is above the radio.

I really like this tray.... I'm thinking about ordering it for my car pc screen.

Any regrets/comments?

No regrets.

I will use this to mount an LCD screen when I install my car PC. For now the GPS mount works great since it sinks the GPS lower into the dash so it doesn't block my view of the road.

One thing I should mention is about the bolts that hold the radio head unit in place. Be careful not to drop them when removing them... they disapear.

I will be pulling up the carpet on the drivers side to lay in some Fatmat sound dampener and will find the bolt then I am sure. That requires the removal of the left hand side seat...and the entire center console.

Really didn't take that long to do, maybe a couple of hours.

It's nice and all, but the idea of a screen constantly sticking out of my dash doesn't appeal to me. Besides, it's an invitation for a crook to break in and steal your equipment.

If it is detachable like the Magellan is then there won't be anything to invite the thief in for. Been thinking about that.

I purchased a top dash piece so I could revert back if I was to replace the stock head unit with some type of touch screen LCD.

Detaching and unplugging the screen all the time then mounting it again gets old very quickly.

I suppose so but with a quick detach it wouldn't be horrible.

Better than having to replace it if someone decided they liked it a lot...

i need to water mark my stuff

to answer the ?s of height... the angle it deciving... with the screen i can see everything on the road... it does not block anything...

as to the crime thing... i dont go anywhere that that would be a problem. but i also have a windshield shade that covers it..

hopefully derwankels folding screen option will happen in the not to distant future..

here is a photo from the drivers eye... and my nav system...

btw. 4years. like your setup also... and the install of the nav tray is a pain. that hidden bolt... arhhhhhhhh.
