OK, i need a little advice
I currently have one JL 10W7. I am actually planning on getting rid of it and replacing it with another sub(s) that may take up less space. What i want to know is what would be a good sub that will hit hard, sound good, not take up too much space, and will sound good with heavy metal and hardcore music like Slipknot, Dry Kill Logic, It Dies Today, etc... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone can give me some ideas, can you give me an approximate cost of that sub also. Thanks a lot.

you'd be ok with Rockford Fosgate Power Stage 1's (T110D2)...they're dual 2ohm and only need .75 cubic ft with a 600wt power rating,,versus the 1.25cuft needed by the 10W7's...you're looking at about $225 a sub...
Rockfords are a good all around sub...

i thought about that. but i was thinking along the lines of a 10 or 12. granted the 8 would sound pretty good, i'm just not sure (hopefully someone here has experience with the 8W7) if it will meet my needs.

I go on car audio forums daily & I have seen many great reviews from many people with the 8w7.Also I would recommend a 10 or 12 inch Eclipse Titanium subwoofer (Eclipse Sw9112 or sw9110 ).They are rated 750rms watts. They hit extremely hard so you would need just 1 of them.I have the Eclipse in my car & I'm very satified with its sound quality/bass. The 12inch is $400 & $350 for the 10inch.That's internet prices, retail is like $600 for the 12 & $550 for the 10inch.

alright. thanks. i will go look into the eclipse and also the rockford that Xero recommended. do you have the numbers off hand about enlcosure size? basically anything smaller than 1.5 cu. ft. will probably be acceptable.

I have four JL 8W3s, and that's almost too much sub (plus I wouldn't say that my current setup doesn't take up space). However, two 8W3s hit plenty hard, and don't take up too much space if you don't want them to. You can look at dmp's "Show Me Thread" and see what my trunk looked like with just the two 8's in it.

well...if you want to drop down to 8" subs...Focal would dominate there...i had 2 in my Jeep several years ago and could set off car alarms with the thunder they produced...If you get a good sub by someone reputable..then it all rests in the fabricators hands with the box...trust me..it used to amaze people at my shop when I had 1 JL Audio 8 putting out more bass then most of the ricers with a trunk full of 15's....I plan on fabricating those same 8's into the RX8 as soon as i have time to finish the mold for the fiberglass...
If you want astounding bass, Eclipse is there but they are power hungry...a SW9102 is a HUGE sub though...and requires a HUGE box...i think over 2 cuft...
Also Alpine X-Type subs are pretty good as well...they run about the same as the Rockfords...i think you'll be happy if you stick to 10's with Alpine or RF...
oh DUH!..i totally forgot Image Dynamics...there subs are rock solid...the IDMAX10 d2v3 would be perfect for your setup as well...it's sealed enclosure requirements are 1-1.5 cuft...they run about $290-300 a sub...very well worth it...i used a lot of Image Dynamics stuff in competition cars with Zapco and/or Crossfire amps...

i have two twelve inch audio bahn subs at 1100 watts each and it game with a big booklet on everything about the subs. space savers down to ever little detail you would want to know about building, installing, or just sound frequences and it shows you how to figure out the math of how much cubic feet there is in your sub box you made. then how much frequency and bass that would put out. with the two twelve inch i only need .75 or less they recommend. i have a bit less and boy do they pound. plus audio bahn is a really good sub for sound quality better than anything you could get your hands on in stores. i paid 306 dollars for both my subs from a factory in new york and thats including shipping and handleing to wisconsin.

I am thinking a lot about two image dynamics 10" subs. front what you are saying, they sound great. now, if i do go with these, would they sound better sealed or ported? i listen to hardcore and heavy metal, so i will need it rather tight. And would they hit harder than my 10W7 and still retain great quality?
I am also looking into the eclipse sub.
Thanks for all the help. i am grateful.

alright, I think you should go with some Kicker's, thats what im going to throw in as soon as i get enough cash. If you dont wanna take up room and want something little the L7 is the way to go you should be fine with one 8inch as long as its in a nice box, itll hit hard it handles 950watts. I would definatly not go with Audiobahn, even though it has good looks and is cheap the speaker falls apart over time, its made out of cheap material, and their warranty doesnt cover that. With rockford they sound nice, but if they ever blow the company is really strict with their warrranty. I dont know about the other brands, but i used to have kickers in my srt-4 and they sounded the best, i tried audiobahn, rockford, jl, and i liked kicker the best.

One thing about the Eclipse are that they are really power hungry & it's recommended by manufacturer 3.2 cuft in sealed enclosur on the Titanium sw9122(12inch) & 2.1 cuft in sealed enclosure on the Titanium sw9102(10inch). Sealed enclosures requires more power from the amp & the bigger the enclosure the tighter the bass. It's probably too big of an enclosure size for your liking. If not the Eclipse subs, I would definately recommend you looking at the Image Dynamics IDmax series subs!Oh yeah the Eclipse web site is www.eclipse-web.com if you want to look at their product line & awards.
