OMG, someone stole my battery!
So i open up the hood and I find this:
Granted, it took my 10 mins before I noticed something was missing.
I look high and low, but the darn thing has wandered off.
I decided to take a peek in the trunk, and found this little guy hiding in there:
What's this now? It seems to be hiding, let's open up his lid and try not to frighten him
The piece of wood is temporary, i'm having a brace fabbed up.
In all seriousness, I've been wanting to relocate my batter for awhile just to make some room in the engine bay for future dreams of going FI. I had the day off and when I called my local audio guru he said it was slow and they could knock it out quickly if I wanted to stop buy.
They built the little box without me even asking for, thought it was a nice touch.

all the credit goes to Audio Design in San Jose, CA. After the work they did for my custom sub box and how well they hid all the wiring going back to them was a no-brainer.

^.........I don't think so, it's an Optima yellow top which is an AGM battery. I could be wrong though about the venting though.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
I know they can out gas under certain circumstances as Optimas are not a "Valve Regulated" AGM battery but I think they will only out gas under extreme conditions.

would i seal it up in an vacuum bag, no. is there enough air in the trunk for it to "breath", yes.
I should have taken a pic of the OEM battery.. fluid was a good 1 inch from the top. stupid ugly battery. The motive behind doing this now (and not at the same time as FI) was since I had upgraded my sound system if i really cranked up the volume my lights would dim to the music, not a good thing.
If my trunk ever fills with gas i'll let mazurfer be the canary to see if it's lethal.

I thought someone really stole your battery, I was going to ask why just the battery but I get it now.
Looking good, I have the yellow top as well. Mine is around 3 years old and seems to be dying on me, is that about a normal life for these things or should it still have plenty of juice? I hope it's not the alternator...
I'm going to load test it when I get back to the states to find out. Just wondering if you knew. If I do need a new one, what's the difference between the red and yellow top? Definitely getting one or the other, just didn't know how they're different.
How's it hold up with the sound system? I had 1000w in my last car with the yellow top and it solved any dimming/never died out on me. Very reliable battery.

yellow tops are the one recommended for cars with aftermarket stereo systems, deep cycle or some such. It has fully cured my dimming lights issue.
It also seems to have helped out with an issue i was having with the keyless remote. Sometimes, not always, when I walked away from my car the car would not autolock unless I stood by the door for a few seconds. Since this battery was installed it's locking right away. The car is also starting 1/2 a second earlier when cranking and my acceleration "feels" smoother.
I have an 06 that was on the lot for a year before I bought it so I never really noticed these things till after the battery was replaced.
Thanks for all the kind comments.

I was just getting ready to make an almost identical install with a red top in replace of my small racing battery, which is already located in the same spot. I'm both light on that corner and the small racing battery is proving marginal with my racing pulley setup. Two birds, one bolt-on racing battery box , $30
Edit: Optima batteries are fully sealed and can be mounted in any position.

Sweet. Yea drill some holes / put a vent on enclosure for sure. It's sealed but it will still be subject to lot of heat. Anytime you use electricity you generate heat. It will last longer with a little venting. Sweet mod!
