One disc mp3 player or 6 disc CD changer? Why not both?

It frustrates me that you can get a one disc mp3 player or a six disc, non mp3 playing changer in the RX-8, but you can't get a six disc changer that plays mp3 CDs.

It's like toothpaste...why do you have to choose between tartar control and whitening? I want BOTH, dammit! Why do I have to choose? It's not like I'm going to brush with one and then the other!

Anyway, does anyone know if there is any plan to offer a mp3 playing CD changer for the RX-8? It would make my day.

You can have both!

If you order a PIE adapter and and Alpine 6CD changer (the one that plays MP3's) you can have a changer that plays MP3's. The PIE adapter output connects into an open connector on the back of the existing radio. The Alpine changer connects into the input of the PIE adapter. You can control the changer from the existing changer controls.

If you're interested -
I don't have the model numbers, but do a search for PIE and you'll come across it in this forum.

Yeah, I know about that. But what I'd like is a factory 6 disc mp3 changer...why in the heck wouldn't Mazda offer it? They've already got a single disc mp3 player...why didn't they make it a changer? Then you'd get a ton of music, plus mp3 test on the screen. Why Mazda, WHY????!!!

So frustrating!

I agree with you. But, it seems a lot of car manufacturers consider the audio system a low priority in the design of the car. They don't seem to understand that audiophiles also drive cars.

I think that may be starting to change, but there's still a long way to go with a majority of the stock car audio systems.
