Oops, did I buy the wrong LOC from davidnavone.com?

Everyone seems to say to buy a LOC from davidnavone.com. It used to be that there was really only one applicable product on the site, the NE-774V, here:

However, when I got to the site, I thought this one looked like an even better option (the RHL 2 channel):

(Top of the page here: http://www.davidnavone.com/cart.asp?24&cat=7)

However now I am feeling somewhat stumped by two questions:

1. This one has a Remote-out, and therefore it has a 12V Red in that is supposed to connect to the battery. Should I just splice it into my main amp power wire?

2. Why does everyone suggest getting the 4 channel, when most amp setups will only use one or MAYBE 2 channels in? I only plan on tapping into the rear left and rear right, so I bought the 2 channel. What am I missing here?

And lastly, did I screw up altogether, or does this one do the same thing as the old NE-774V but just also has a remote out?

You are fine. These are just his new stuff

As for the 12v red wire, it says right on the unit to connect it to a 12v accessory, or switched power. This is used as the amp turn on signal.

Not entirely sure why you would even need this as it shouldn't have anything at all to do with the LOC. It is needed for the amp. I would wire it just like a regular LOC and wire your amp like a regular amp. I wouldn't bother with connecting the remote 12v to the LOC and then again to the amp, just wire it straight to the amp.

Oh, and 2 channel vs 4 channel only matters what you are going to be adding.

Hmm, you're right that the picture I posted says to 12V DC accessory or ignition, but mine doesn't have that sticker but came with these instructions:

Maybe this is just a simplified version, and maybe I totally misunderstood this, but I thought the point of the remote out on the LOC was that it would could be supplied constant power, and would only turn on the amp when the presence of a audio signal was detected.

I'm not really sure on that. The LOC could use the speaker signal to switch a relay that turns the remote signal on. Then when there is no speaker signal, the remote line is inactive.

I would still just wire the amp regularly using a switched 12v source straight to the amp remote terminal.

If you do decide to use the LOC remote line function let me know how it works.

Well I've found one other wiring reference for this type of LOC:

http://www.pac-audio.com/PACProductD...ons_020909.pdf

That shows wiring the 12V IN lead on the LOC to the 12V IN on the Amp - essentially connecting it straight to the battery, right?

I've also found a million people saying "A line output converter with a signal sensing remote turn on is the way to go" but NO one saying how these things are wired.

Yes, that would be a constant 12v. Just Like the amplifier that uses the remote turn on to tell it when to draw power, these LOCs use the speaker signal to tell it to send the remote 12v signal to the amp. The Pac one isn't really integrated as the Navone one is. The PAC needs and extra signal to be wired in (green wire) where it looks like the Navone unit auto senses the signal from one or all of the speaker wires.

It doesn't actually draw any power from the battery unless the speakers are getting a signal.

I can't see any advantages or disadvantages one way or the other with this type of LOC as opposed to the regular ones.
