Painting Interior
Hey has anyone tried painting interior?
I'm especially interested in that huge piece of plastic between seats.
Its scratched like hell and i think it will look nicer in yellow
Something like on those pics but less shiny

you go that route or you can get a dash kit.

its a pretty nice site, theres alot of choices, wood trim, brushed aluminum, different colors (red, blue, orange, etc.), and even carbon fiber in different colors.

I'm undergoing this next weekend. Going for the red anodized look on the silver console strips. One of the "Arizona Mazda Club" guys just did his in Piano black. Looked good from the pics I saw.
I don't know if those dash kits come with the console pieces or not.
Here's a couple of links to the dash its,,

Funny but they all look like they came from the same supplier.

To be honest...........when I first saw this thread, I said "oh...this is gonna look like crap", but..............it actually looks pretty good.
Not sure I would go this route, and wouldn't have done the shift ****, but overall.......not bad at all!

duplicolor - hvp101
no clear coat or anything. If color gets bad after some time i'll paint it again :D
shift **** looks like ****
The original paint was gone so i thought it will be nicer. Well it looks as bad as before
The only minus is that you can still see scratches

I know how to do it, Ive done it 3 times already
1. Royal Blue
2. Envy Green
3. Piano Black ( current )
heres a short DIY if it helps:
PREP:
1. remove whatever you want painted.
2. take a damp cloth, with just warm water. I don't advise using soap at all. I have seen soap do some funky things to plastic when ya try to paint it afterwards. Once it's all clean let it dry completely.
PAINT:
Ive done primer + paint before
and just paint didnt really see a difference
if you want the name of the primer its:
Dupli-Color Engine Enamel Gray Engine Primer DE 1612
If you want just interior paint use
KRYLON FUSION
just put it somewhere clean and not windy. I put mine outside on a table
I sprayed probably 4 coats on each. ( very light )
waited 20 minutes after each coat
then let it sit in the sun
put a clear coat a couple hours later
let it dry for a whole day without installing ( your decision, just wanted to play the safe side )
install and walah new interior
I know my friends have done it before
if you want different textures like shine, etc
you can sand it down then degrease etc.
Advisory:
WHEN SPRAYING, DONT HOLD DOWN THE TIP. JUST USE SPIRTS ( 10 inches away )
if you spray too much too close it clumps up and yea you have to REDO it
paint removal etc it sucks Its happened to me...
too be honest, its very easily to do
the only hard thing is removal of the parts then putting it back.
dont rush or itll show up in your work..
same would work for engine parts as well ( plastic )
If its plastic that means it doesnt get so hot to the point it will melt things so your fine
Ive down engine covers, and other random plastic things
came out great.
