Passenger Window Auto-down -- how hard?

Does anyone have an idea of how difficult it would be / what it would take to set up the passenger window to have the same auto-down feature of the driver's window?

Not hard at all, the auto feature is built into the switch. Just buy the drivers side window switch from the dealer and install that in the passenger side. 10 minute job!

That'd be interesting - and while we are at that topic, how about an auto-up feature? Other cars have that too, and it would be really convenient to be able to just briefly hit the button that would close the windows all the way, while holding the button would work as it does now.

I don't think that would work... They are physically different.

How hard would it be to make the windows/sunroof close when you take the key out?

Auto closure is not done from the factory as it is a safety hazard. Imagine your little pooch's head poking out of the sun roof when you turn the key off and jump out of the car. Ouch.

I don't imagine that you guys are too concerned about safety but it might be a hassle on resale.

What about just being able to put both auto down from the driver's side, I don't care if the passenger can control the window or not

You could do auto-up or sunroof close or any config through DEI window modules, works from the remote or factory window switch.

I second that. I had DEI window modules installed w/my alarm to open/close the windows via remote fob. When in the car, both driver's and passenger's side windows go up and down (fast) with a touch from their respective buttons on my door console.

I see what you are talking about with both switches being different. But the switch itself is the same. Just the mounting piece is different. I think the switche itself should pop out of their allowing you to swap them.

You've seen cars with an auto up feature? I thought the reason this did not exist is for safety reasons. A kids hand or head could be in the window on the way up. If some do have it, I would assume they also have some sort of pressure sensor.

It can be done. I have it on mine. Windows are 1 touch up or down, second tap stops 'em. The Sunroof was much tricker, but, it got done. All windows close when arming the alarm. After, I can choose to vent windows, open windows, vent sunroof, open sunroof. All are independent.

My suggestion, rather than going my custom route, try the DEI modules as already suggested. I'm sure a dealer could probably install them.

Someday I'll post videos of my car on my site...hopefully next month!

I sure did. My wife's previous car (a '98 Passat) and her current Toyota Sienna minivan both have that.

Yes, they do.
I'll explore the DEI route; maybe those units also have sensors built-in that'd sense the resistance if something is in the windows' way.

Could someone post a good link to the DEI stuff?

I've seen 155,000 miles worth of auto-up in my VW GTI. Love it, especially in the rain. Works on driver/passenger window from the driver's door only. Passenger door switch has auto-down, not auto-up.

My BMW 328i had auto up and down on both doors.

I have a JDM 8 and the driver's side window has both auto-up and auto-down. But the passenger's side window has not. I really don't know why they don't make it auto-up/down as well. When I close the windows, I just lift the driver's side button for half a second, but I have to lift and hold the passenger's side button.

auto up is available in a ton of cars.. manufacturers that leave this feature out claim its for safety.. . but seriously, they have all heard of pinch protection. in my moms lexus, when the windows go up and somethign gets in its way, they stop and retract instantly. faster than you could react yourself probably..

hold down the unlock button on the key fob- all windows drop and sunroof opens... very nice to vent the car. forget to close them? hold the lock button.

Are you referring to the 8 or the Lexus?
