When I bought my RX8 3 months ago, I looked throught the RX8 accessories book that was given to me by the salesman. In my previous car, I had a PC hooked up to my head unit, so I could hear MP3's. My PC had an 80gb hard drive, so I was used to hearing lots of random music. Well, I wanted something similar in the RX8, so I bought the Phatnoise system that was in the accessories book.

Well, It was installed, and worked 1 time. Well, it worked on the way home from the service department. I put about 100 songs on it, went to the grocery store as an excuse to listen to it. Took the cartridge out, added 1000 songs to it, plugged the cartridge back in, and it never worked since.

2 months later, after many phone calls and several visits to the Mazda service department, it was determined by Mazda's HQ in California that the Phatnoise system is INCOMPATIBLE with the software version in the 2007 RX8 6CD changer stereo.

My Mazda dealership is currently working on a way to refund me the money I payed for the system. I purchased it with my car, so it was financed into the car payment.

So, this is an FYI to you guys.

 

Ouch. Sucks. Get them to re-calculate the interest from day one.... obviously.

And nobody on here talks about the Phatnoise system. But that looks an awful lot like the kenwood music keg of a few years ago.
