PIE question

Just wondering if a "defective" PIE unit can mess up your radio? Having some issues.. i think its the radio, but want to make sure that i don't get the same issue after i replace it and install that PIE unit... thanks again.

When you say "replace it", what do you mean? Replace the PIE unit?

If you have the PIE unit already installed and you think you have a problem with radio reception due to a defective PIE unit, I doubt that could be the cause. (Is that the issue, radio reception, you are referring to?)

If it's only the radio reception that has the problem and you did not have a problem with the radio before installing the PIE, it's possible that you pinched the antenna cable when you re-seated the Head Unit Assembly after connecting the PIE. I know, I did that myself when I installed the PIE.

Or maybe you did not re-insert the antenna connector all the way in.

More detail in your post would help

well, here is the issue.. after installing my PIE.. my radio went out.. display, cd changer and a/c controls.. the fan still blows but i can't select whether i want Vents, Floor, Mix, etc. I remembering reading a similar issue where someone was going to install their sub and the radio went out as well.. took it to the dealer and lo and behold, since i had "modified" the radio, it voids my warranty.. so, if this would be the same issue as mine, i just want to make sure that i don't mess up the replacement radio IF the PIE unit caused a short or whatsoever.. hopefully i am making some sense. i'm still boggled what or how that would've happened.. but, my radio most likely is toast...Thanks in advance..

edit**.. after reading through some threads, i came across devoid's explanantion on the 2 PCB boards that control the display and a/c functions.. if i just get the "faceplate" replacement of the HU, maybe i'll be able to get it all to work again...

Man, sorry to hear but it sure looks like you broke the circuit board.
Where is the car now? Home or the Dealer?
If it is home, check that all connectors are plugged in, remove the PIE if you can,
see if that helps, maybe you got lucky and forgot the 1 of the 4 plugs to hook back up, or pinched 1 of them.
Sins it is broke now, you can't make it any worse...

Did you check to see if a fuse blew. That happened to me when I installed my icelink. Replaced the fuse and the display worked again.

Well.. my 8 is at home now, after being "denied" at the dealer.. LOL .. i checked all the fuses and all connections last night before taking it to the dealer.. i wish it would've been just a blown fuse.. THOSE ARE CHEAP :p .. but it looks like it may be the circuit board .. since i've got nothing else to lose, i'll see if i can find where the circuit board broke and see if it can be remedied..(its been a while since i played w/ circuit boards.. but heck, its just like riding a bike right? ) if not, oh well.. a replacement will have to be ordered..

so.. who's got the hookup for a replacement? i'm eager to buy!

you are DEFINITELY not getting a connector hooked up

that is how the thing runs when something is not attached

take apart...make SURE all are connected and the little one on the side of the HU too

now try again, I'm sure it is fine

lets chat if there is still a problem
