Planning new stereo (have Bose), need advice
O.K., first of all, I have spent hours reading through the posts here and am still trying to make my final decision about how far I want to go with my upgrades.
I have a Bose system and at the minimum am installing my 8" powered Bazooka. I am considering replacing the 6X9 deck speakers with some 5 1/4" Diamond Audio coax's. The impedance is 4 ohms and sensitivity is 91.0. I am worried about volume loss.
The final consideration is whether or not to replace the door speakers with a Diamond Audio 6.25 component set up. I have an Alpine amp (45w x 4) that I would use as a 2 channel amp to power these speakers. From what I have read this upgrade is not to be taken lightly and I would have a professional do the speaker intall in the doors. But is it worth it?
Also, where would I get the audio signal from to feed the amp for the door speakers? I have read all about the signal coming out of the rear amp and have decided to get the signal for my Bazooka after the amp. But, do I have to cut into the wiring harness at the headunit to get a signal for the amp I want to use to power the door speakers?
Please help!!

You need to grab the signal at the rear amplifier only as all signals are present there. To integrate properly into this vehicle, use the Audio Control 6XS or LC6 ( + bass remote), the 6XS is the preferred interface for a Bose based system. Do not worry about the sensitivity of the speakers, far more important than how sensitive they are is how they sound. No spec can tell you this. This is a fairly dificult but not highly advanced install for what you need to have done. A competent shop will be able to do this. I would use both of your amplifiers to drive the new speakers, front (the most important) and rear + sub. Do a search for AudioControl or 6XS to find the posted info on it. There is more than enough information that I have posted about it on this site to make the proper decision on how to wire up the new system.

Thank you - I am psyched to hear the signal for the front speakers is in the trunk.
I am a little confused by your answer though. I only have one amp. Did you mean to use all four channels of my Alpine amp to power the door speakers and rear deck speakers? I was going to leave Bose power for the rear deck speakers.

You can leave the Bose running the rear speakers if you like. Then use the 4 channel on the fronts and sub. Realize however, that if you replace the rear speakers with a smaller speaker, the capability of that speaker will be limited and in this case it will knock the power output down by 50%. So your best bet is to add a second amp to power the sub and use the 4 channel for the front and rear speakers. You can fit a over size 6.5" speaker in the back with ease, as well as a repectable 6x9" as well. As it is a fill speaker with no major emphasis as compared to the front, I would be inclined to use a good 6x9" and channel the rest of the $ towards the far more important front speakers and a sub amp. Either way you go with the amplifier route, the interface box will allow you to expand the system when you want to.
