Please Help

Nobody responded to my other thread, but please help me out here.

I went to a car audio specialty store and they said it would be about $600 to get a 300 watt amp, 10" subwoofer (Kicker), box, and all the wiring. But I look at Best Buy's site and they have stuff like Lightning package that comes with two 10" subwoofers, a box, and a 450 watt amp for $160!!!!! Is there really that much difference in quality??

Depends on the brand and the specs. Yes, there is a difference in quality - but unless you're an audiophile or like to listen to really musically complex stuff, you may never hear it. The Best Buy system may well be just fine for you.

Also, you'll always pay much more at an audio specialty store than you will for the same stuff at a big-box store like Best Buy, who has the bulk buying power to get the same things much cheaper than the little stores.

I would suggest you get component brands and model numbers, then look them up online and see how much they sell for on the internet. That will tell you how much markup the specialty store is charging. Then decide how much you can afford, and what your minimum quality level is, and make your buying decision from there.

Hope this helps.

i agree with omicron completely, i would also like to add that what ever you get, the quality of install of also very important, though its pretty hard to screw up a simple sub and amp install, make sure they use the proper wiring, air tight enclosure and properly bolt everything down
