Well i want to purchase myself an mp3 player.

My friend has an ipod and bought a 20 dollar kit that allows him to play it to connect to his car.

I think i have narrowed my search for MP3 players down to the achros AV320, the rca lyra 20gb, and the ipod.

The achros/rca both have video playback etc etc but thats not the point.

Is there a way i can connect the portable mp3 players to my rx8?

You have three options, 2 easy 1 harder.

Get a FM modulator for your device and play it through the radio (doesn’t always work)

Get a cassette player for your RX-8 and use a cassette to 1/8 stereo adapter

The last and hardest is to solder in an AUX IN jack to your unit, there are a few threads on this subject with photos just search for “AUX-IN”

 

Are there FM modulators for the RCA lyra and or the Achros?

I know they have the Itrip for the Ipods, i've attempted to search for the FM modulators for the RCA and Achros, would you possibly be able to link me to a place that sells them for those 2 mp3 players?

Yes, however i do not have a casset player in my rx8

 

Get the iPod

 

There are several FM modulators available, but I don't know if those companies sell any specific to those players.

Fortunately, once you're not Apple hardware, you have all the benefit of third-party support. I know I've seen a small FM modulator at my local Target for just $20 -- it simply plugs into the headphone jack of your player (and most players are standardized on 1/8" stereo jacks).

Same with the cassette adapter (although I did note you said you didn't have one); there are plenty of adapters out there, simply designed to plug into an 1/8" stereo jack.

Apple sells "official" adapters for their iPods, but I don't know if they're even that necessary (and possibly just overpriced). The one thing Apple knows how to do is lock a customer into a set of Apple-specific overpriced accessories (the iPod itself remains hideously overpriced).
