Portable Navigation

I'm looking into buying a portable GPS for in my car but I have no idea what the hell I'm looking at.

Anyone have a navigation system that can tell me anything about them? Or anyone have one they'd recommend? I'm not looking to spend more than 500$ because I just bought a new digital camera, too.

P.s. If this is a huge repost- too bad, I searched.

I have VERY limited experience with GPS nav systems, but you can look at the Garmin nuvi 350 or 360. The main advantage of the 360 is that it has Bluetooth capability, if that's important to you. Both can be had for under $500, online.

Also, you might try the GPSPassion forums (http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/default.asp?group=2) for lots of good info.

I know two people with the Garmin StreetPilot c300 series (330, I think). They are all extremely easy to use.

However, I haven't tried one in an RX-8; the mounting suction cup goes on the windshield and is the only downside I can see.

or you can get a friction mount and just let it sit on the dash, works great, as long as you're not doing hard cornering all the time lol

Garmin Nuvi 360 is a good choice, btw

That's exactly why I want one! I have the horrible tendency to forget to print the reverse directions! So I get wherever I'm going and then I'm like "Awww hell no!" when it's time to go home!

Thanks for all your input!

Anything by Garmin is great. I personally bought the Alpine Blackbird for myself and love it.

And the C330 is available for $350, the C340 (which calls out street names) is $450 now.

Hahaha, I have this same problem. Being a dude/guy I'm just like "i'll just do the "to" directions in reverse...how hard can it be? Oh wait."

Then again, Nav systems arent fool proof either. Just ask Kel and Chrism

yup, if you just want a no-fuss, straight-up door-to-door GPS, c330 is one heck of a bargain right now

Awesome- thanks guys!

And TomAssBender- I'm a girl and I still have a horrible sense of direction! I try to just reverse the directions myself too... that has definitely gotten me into a pickle before

I have a Mio 310x. It is awesome and way cheaper than the Garmin. You can get it for $200 pretty easily, and it has more features than Garmin. Playing around with them in the store it made the Garmin look very barebones. Garmin supposedly has the best maps though, I know the maps that came in the Mio are a little outdated but they have upgraded them in the newer units (still probably lagging behind Garmin). I couldn't justify the extra cost so I went Mio. No regrets. It's worth at least looking into as an option.

Also, you can hack the Mio and add new skins and video player software. Some people have loaded the TomTom GPS software on it. You can even play SNES games with an emulator http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/t...TOPIC_ID=76199

Well I don't think all that's necessary. I can just see me wrecking my 8 because I was playing super nintendo! Pretty cool though! Thanks
