Problem with new metra kit...

I was installing my new kit and double din radio and everything was working fine, but once i put the radio in and everything else the radio doesn't turn on and i have no display... Can it be the HVAC that went bad??

The display doesn't turn on when you turn the ignition on? I'd check your wiring.

I just installed a Metra kit..

Return the Axxess box and swap out for another one.

Got a voltmeter? If not, get one at Radio Shack or an auto parts store and learn how to measure DC voltage with it. Putting the two leads across a 9V battery is a good way to start.

Look at the axxess box, and find the big 10-pin connector. Connect the black lead on the voltmeter to a metal part on the vehicle's chassis, and use the voltmeter's red lead to measure the voltage on the yellow wire (should be 12V or so), then check the red wire with the ignition on (should be 12V or so), then check the black wire (should be 0V). Then check to see if all connectors are fully seated.

Things that stop working once they are pushed into place are often due to pinched wires which cause short circuits.

If either your yellow wire or your red wire are not at 12V with the car on, start looking for a blown fuse. Good luck.

I think the OP is trying to say that the headunit he installed is working, but now nothing else is. No HVAC or amber display.

The Axxess boxes are garbage. I'd hunt for blow fuses, then assume it's the axxess box.

Check the first post - " the radio doesn't turn on". The Axxess box has no bearing on the radio operation. So, probably a pinched or poorly insulated power wire leading to a blown fuse.

Yeah I read that too. It's just such poor English, it could be taken a couple ways. I took it as everything is working fine, but everything except the radio now doesn't work. Or maybe you're right. I don't know. hahaha The lack of punctuation is killing me. Not trying to be the forum police, but jesus.

Sorry for my poor english.. lol... I figured out the problem with the radio, The yellow wire coming from the axxess box which is the 12v constant wire has no power, so i guess the axxess box went bad, like someone said, probably some pinched wire created a short circuits because my a/c is still not working. You think metra will send me a new one if i call or i have to buy a new one?? Thanks for the help guy!!

Check for power on the stock harness. Check your fuses!

What he said.

The power on the yellow wire comes from the car, not from the Axxess box. Check your fuses, and look for a pinched or poorly insulated wire that caused the fuse to blow. The harness for the display needs to be removed from the OE radio. RTFM.
