Problems with Center Console Cover

Does anyone have a problem with the center console lid sliding shut sometimes when you're going downhill, etc. ? I can't stand it! It is starting to get really annoying, and I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem. The piece I am talking about is the lid that slides to cover the cupholders in the center.

If anyone has had this problem, do you think the dealership can replace it? A small piece under the lid is probably broken off, that's why it slides shut so easily..

I'm just getting sick of all the interior parts falling apart in my car... It's not like I'm rough with opening and closing things here and there, haha. But so far.. my visor split open (which I found was a pretty common problem for 8's), the ash tray lid is broken/loose so it flips shut without me touching it sometimes, and now my center console lid is sliding shut very very easily.

there is a fix for it in the DIY forum by putting tape on the under side of the lid. I have done this and found that it works, cheap and easy fix for your problem

I have also seen a DIY somewhere on here.... haven't really noticed mine sliding open or closed, but i live in Florida. Not too many hills around here.

But the release button on the front of my lid is kinda weird/broke. It doesn't like to snap closed. Gotta use a slight amount of extra force. I can actually see the button raised up more on one end. Something is broke for sure.... but I know there is no way in hell my dealer is going to replace it. I'm willing to put my dealer up against ANYONE ELSE'S for ******** of the decade. I honestly don't see how anyone else's could be worse. Dead serious.

Got an extra lid if you need it.

And angeLa___X may sound stupid, but are you sure you are sliding it all the way back? Mine kind of has a little catch when it's slid all the way back.

Dave

Your lid is broken, it's not supposed to do that. Get a replacement from the dealer.

Where's the DIY? I did a search before I posted and couldn't find anything.

The problem is, mine does not catch on. It just slides back and forth freely

Nevermind, I found the DIY. I will try the tape first before complaining to mazda.

How about the ash tray lid? Does anyone have a problem with this? I think the pieces holding the lid in place are broken...

Yeah I'm still under warranty. I have about 39,000 miles and 2004. A lot of mazda dealerships hate me No one wants to help me w/ warranty issues.. haha and everytime I bring it to a dealership, I get my car back w/ more problems.. and on top of that.. they always try to charge me for every stupid little thing like my brake pads need to be replaced when they don't! But yeah.. one time they ruined my volks and wouldn't pay to at least get it repolished even if I had to lose the little logo on the lip.

Anyway, I tried the tape thing and it worked!! I was so excited because it didn't seem like it would work. Would dealerships replace the ashtray also? haha.. I would definitely go to your work but its wayyyy too far! Thanks though!
