Question which radar detector is the best?

Hey

Was wondering if any of the rx8'ers,
have had any experience with radar detectors.

What is the best radar detector (and laser jammer)?

Thanks
Sorry if this is a re-post

I haven't had any experience with laser jammers but I'd have to say that the Escort 8500 X50 is the best radar detector I've ever used and I've owned about 6 different detectors in my life. I also like the Uniden GPSRD but they don't make it anymore and it is about 3 years old. But yeah, the Escort 8500 X50 is the best one I've EVER used. Alerts you of Ka band using Highway Troopers coming up from behind quite a while before you're in range of them scanning you.

Bel....

I use a Bel 9 series.

It has the tremendous advantage of being able to turn off specific bands, for instance X-band. Most false alarms I have found are on X-band interference, but the police haven't used X in twenty years - I can turn it off and know that when it bleeps, it's for REAL!

Hard wired into the mirror power, on with ignition. Set it and forget it.

ANY respectable publication that does a comparison of radar detectors rates the Valentine One as the best. No other rader on the market has the technology and range the V1 has. Its pricey but more than worth the money. Take a look at the website. The arrows alone are worth it.

agreed i have the valentine one also and i love it. the range is awesome and being able to detect multiple signals at once is pretty cool so you can detect speed traps

The Escort Passport 8500 x50 is amazing. It's been rated #1 by many reputable sources too. http://www.escortradar.com/x50.htm
It's #1 in my book....having saved me many times already. Got it hard wired to the map light.sunglasses holder at Cicuit City for $27. It looks clean and work great.

As far as Laser Jammers, Blinder is probably the best but ineffective against the new generation of Laserguns. http://www.usblinder.com/

Also jamming is a very bad idea as the new guns have a code that displays telling the officer someone is trying to jam the unit. Talk about a cop w/an attitude!!!

Just ordered the V1@ $399... ouch

$140 ticket last week 50 in a 30 (country road at night) BIGGER OUCH...

How do you wire it to mirror power... Anyone w/a DIY?

Thanks
Bill

There is a DIY on how to hard wire the V1. Very easy install, consists of pulling out the unit with the moonroof switches, quick splice, replace unit.

thanks 4 all the info people,

i've just ordered the BLINDER M20 X-TREME 4 the laser jammer

as for the radar detector,

it was a close call between v1 or the beltronics pro 65
(just found out i need the ku band which both these models offer)

Ended up ordering the bel pro 65 only because it's a little smaller or at least it looks it. plus its pop mode seems a little more stable than the v1's. let u know how it works on the highway out here when it's fitted! So many cops!

Lidar is the term used for "laser jammers" They are well worth the money..

As for the radar detectors I like the Passport X50, one of the best I have ever owned.

Escort X50

I am selling my Escort X50 (Blue) for 250$.
I used it for 2 months and ended up discovering that police in Calgary only uses lasers. After the third ticket that I got I noticed that the radar was not good for this city. Too much high tech here I guess.

It is almost new, I bought it couple of months ago. ANyone interested please PM me...

SOLD!!!!!!

As to your earlier quote (radar working in Italy) The only radar that will work for you (that is any good) would either be the valentine1 or the beltronics pro rx 65 the reason is you need to pick up ku band, these are the only radar detectors that do that.

Bonus! If you buy the beltronics pro rx 65 you can also buy from them the laser pro 905. It connects to the beltronics pro rx 65 and works with it for the ultimate bundle against police.

You should buy this just for the rx in the name! :D

Here is my take on the best...

Just got my V1 yesterday...

IMHO: Technically speaking the V1 is superior. I once worked w/ a geeky engineer who was very focused on the best engineering design, however the "bells & whistles"competitors started to eat his lunch with their sweet icing on a half baked cake.

I think this best characterizes Mike Valentine and his company. If you want lots-o-features (i.e. voice, dimming etc.) then V1 is not for you. If you want the best technology to keep yourself ticket-free, then go with the geek (sorry Mike, it's a term of admiration).

Bill
