Unhappy rattling noise?

Hello All, well on Thursday I just picked up my 8 and I can not believe what power it has. I had only tested the auto, mine is the MT.

I also could not believe the looks I get, and the GPS is amazing!!

I do have one question. When I am driving, the light on the roof rattles a bit. Seems like the carpeted roof has lots of room to bounce up and down and is kinda flimsy. I do have the moon roof. Has anyone noticed it. I am sure it can be fixed easily with more insulation. But wanted to know if it was common with or without the moonroof. It is Kinda anoying.

Wow, first time I've heard of that- I have a door vibration, but my roof seems pretty tight. Take it back to the dealer and make them fix it...

My roof has give if I push on it, but it certainly doesn't rattle on its own. My display bubble also has give for that matter if I push down on it gently. I noticed this when trying to find the source of a faint but annoying vibration sound emanating from the plastic around the left side of the dash near the vent.

The RX-8 interior looks really sharp, but it does have a lot of cheap plastic. Whatever, for what it costs, I'm not expecting a Lexus.

Doug: I have that roof rattle too. Mine has a moonrrof as well.
There is a rattle that's coming from behind my head or at least it sounds like it. It only happens once in a while. Right now the mirror rattle (common) on the homelink mirror is starting to drive me nuts. If I figure out what's rattling I'll let you know.

I have the sport package. No moonroof, no homelink mirror, no Bose speaker in the door, and no rattles. (knock on wood)

I have the roof liner rattle too I also have a moon roof. I think the rattle is from the switch for the rear light. I have not taken it apart to find out though. Just try to push up on the switch lightly and see if the rattle goes away.

The only rattle that I have is from my Electrochromic Interior Rearview Mirror. From my understanding the Electrochromic Mirror has two pieces of mirrors and I belive that they are not pressed firmly enough against each other resulting in a rattle noise. Does anyone else have this issue?

I tried pushing on the light while driving home today and the rattle seemed to stop, so I think it's from the rear light somewhere. I gotta figure out how to solve it soon.

My rattles developed after thousands of miles, and came mainly when the car was still cold, especially when idling. The dealer tightened up the right hand door seal, and it helped some; not a complete fix. Then, around 10,000, a loud rattle started when the moonroof is open. I'm going to bring that in soon (I'm at 13,000.)

I found the Moon roof rattle and drove aroud with the fix for 2 weeks so I am confident that I found the problem. At the rear of the moon roof shade there are 2 pins (one per side) access is through the moon roof with the glass in the tilted position. open the moon roof ( don't use vent it doesn't open enouph just tap the open switch until the moon roof is tilted) . Feel on the top aft portion of the moon roof shade. You will feel a small metel pin. it makes contact with the shade track. I put a sticky felt circle(like the one's on the bottom of cermic display pices to prevent scraching). If you need pix I can take them to explain it better.

My rattle comes from the HomeLink rear view mirror. The dealer is ordering me a new one.

No kidding, they'll give you a new mirror?

My Homelink mirror rattle is somewhat sporadic, depending on the road surface. It seems to me that it's not the mirror, but the wire harness that goes into the mirror that "rubs" and rattles/creaks over uneven pavement.

Is this what you experienced, or is it something different?

Thanks

It was not the wiring. It was the housing pieces rubbing together. The new mirror should be in next week.

I just posted this on another thread. I have had the mirror rattle for ages and was driving me and my wife nuts. You could squeeze it and it would go away temporarily but would always come back, depending on the road surface. I finally decided to tell the dealer about it (Menlo Mazda in CA). They said it was a loose screw and the rattle appears to have gone. I am happy!

Interesting thread... although my rattle sounds different than others noted. By ear it sounds like it is coming from the top and right side of the dash... could be wrong though. I've also found that books and etc in the door cubbies make annoying rattling sounds.

My rattle sounds like its comming from my bottom right hand speaker in the door, almost sounds like the speaker is hitting the grill but i doubt thats what it is. Anyone have any idea what it might be? I also noticed that the left hand side mirrior rattles when the bass is turned way up but you can only semi notice it when the window is down...

The rattle from the passenger speaker could be the passenger seat, were the sides for the seat bottom are tapping the seat frame. If it does not make the sound with some one in the seat that is your problem.
