Rear speaker replacement, other than 6X9

I am going to replace the rear 6X9 with either 5 1/4 or 6.5 coaxial's. I know I will have to make a template. I was just curious if anyone has used anything else besides swapping with an aftermarket 6X9. Really, am just using for rear fill. So maybe I shouldn't do the extra work of having to make template to mount the 5 1/4 or 6.5 coaxial's too, just go with medium end 6X9. I did some measuring and I don't think a 6/5" coax will work without having to cut some metal. Thanks for the input.

Why would you go with a smaller speaker in the rear?

Thanks, I test fitted one of my front Diamond Audio D661 6.5" comp. mids and it did fit fine. Time to build some plates for some Coax's. Thanks for the pic.
