You know I've been thinking...down here we get lots of rain, and the streets tend to get pretty flooded at times. The rear accent is about 12 - 14 inches off the ground. If I were to stick the camera all the way down there like you did, and I found myself in a situation where I had to drive the car through a flooded street where the water was a little over a foot high (it happens more than you think), wouldn't the cam be in a world of **** if it suddenly found itself submerged underwater at one point? Maybe I'm better off sticking it in the tail light after all. What do you think? Did you ever have to drive through a flooded street while you had the cam down there?

Well...thats a good point.. Im lucky enough to have a daily driver and my RX-8 hardly ever sees moisture. The camera I used is housed in a waterproof casing, so I dont think there would be a problem, however, it all depends on the camera I suppose.

Do you have any extra aluminum housing plates around? You should stamp out a bunch of those and ebay them or offer them here.

I would probably buy one.

I had to chim in here. I first had the cam installed in the taillight but i did not like the way it looked. I removed the center light and painted the cam bezel to match the car and it looks great and is perfectly centered.

The camera only comes on when the car is in reverse, or when I manually switch to it. Since it is an infrared camera, it gives me incredible vision when backing up at night or parallel parking.

It actually is as useful as it is cool =)

Good reason for rear video camera is for owners with dark tints on their RX-8s. If you have 15% or lower on the back, it becomes a pain in the *** to back up or even see out of your rear view mirror at night (at least for me). So the night vision cam would be a great addition for those of us who have both poor night vision and dark tints.

Other than that I can't think of any other reasons for why it would be imperative to install one in a car. Maybe to get a closer look at the ******** riding your bumper?

It wouldn't be difficult to get recording capability in there. All you'd have to do is hook up a DVR or something. Just not sure what the point of that would be.

does the back up camera come with the video switcher or its separate? I never use my GPS as its Japanese as i bought a JDM model car, so can i just disconnect the whole gps crap and just use the monitor for back up camera? I wouldn then need a AVI input switcher would i?
