Remote Start/alarm

Remote Start/alarm
Not sure if I'm in the right thread. But, I was looking into getting a remote start & alarm system installed in my '09 rx8. I was told, in order to do this, they are going to need to put one of my keys in car. Well, my dealer told me it would cost $370 to get another key. The alarm system itself is gonna cost around $300, labor $250, and then another $100 for some kinda of cable/adapter. Is this standard pricing for alarm install and new key? I'm looking for other options or ideas anyone might have.
Thanks!

Pretty sure there is nothing new/special about the 09 keys versus prior years. Buy the blank key off eBay. Just get the valet version of the key if you can find it. You don't even need to have it cut. The installers just need the transponder chip in the key. Either the dealer can program it to your car..... or actually I think there might be a walkthrough on here to do it yourself?
The alarm price of $300 is normal for an alarm/remote start. The labor is a touch high in my opinion, but I won't sell it short because, let me be clear, this is a lot of work. (Think I used to charge ~$180) The $100 is probably for the transponder adapter module itself. It holds the key you'll give them, reads the chip, and sends the signal to the ignition telling it that it's ok to start the car. It is a must, but $100 is again a little high for it. (Think I used to sell them for ~$60)
If this is by far the best shop in town, and you can be sure you're going to get a top notch install, then go for it. Else, I'd get a second quote from somewhere else.

wyld11..... as a previous installer to be honest 250 in labor is a joke. your getting ripped off (unless u pissed off a chain store installer). however it sounds like your going to a non chain store or mom and pop shop. they need to charge more to stay in business. If you want to pay less go to a chain store (i dont reccommend best buy. too many horry stories)
also see if the shop will let you buy your own stuff to bring to them and than do the install. some companies will only use "their product" and most reputable companies wont do it on a MT vehicle or you will sign a wavier.
the "transponder box" and key thing. ive pissed off many people like yourself because that used to be the only way to do installs. However now with the new technology thats out you need both keys at time of install for programming reasons but you will recieve them both back at install end. Ive been out a while but I know there is a PKALL by DEI and a switchblade product and one on 6th ave electronics site (all of them under 80 minus shipping.) also check sonicelectronix.com for them.
finally the price for any decent brand of remstart/keyless/security is about that. I paid 250 with an employee discount that was half off. may i recommend a DEI product. Python, Viper, ect.
goodluck and if your seriously concerned about prices.....call around first. Most places are upfront with prices. But like firebirdude said it is a quality install you want. If that shop does good work and you know it (or read posts) get it done. you dont want someone like BB rushing thru it to just meet car budget.
