Replacing bose speakers
Can I replace the bose speakers with aftermarket 4 ohm ones? I only ask this because my last car had a bose system and they used 1 ohm speakers. So I could not replace them without replacing the bose amp. And I couldn't change the bose amp without getting a differental line converter. (it just got too expensive) Also how many watts RMS is the bose amp. How many of them are there?... I know about the one in the trunk but is that all? Is there more?

Yeh..you are gonna need to change the full system. From an engineering point of view, making a stable amp @ 1 ohm is great, but if you add aftermarkets that are typically at 4 ohms, you are going to add a lot of resistance and serioulsly decrease the amp output power. Tis best to replace the whole system. There are at least 3 amps in the sytem from what I have read: The Head unit, and then 1 amp to power each of the 9" Woofers in the front door. Not sure about where the rears are getting their power...I got a frat bro @ Bose in car audio..ill shoot him an email and see if he can tell me anything...

the rear amp you can see if you stick your head in the trunk and look up...very easy to tap to add a sub
as for drop in speakers there actually are options for you RR...not many but there are...several members have dropped in the tweaters corner of the window and added a powered sub by tapping the trunk amp...lots of testing later they had very good sound
really it comes down to $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

why don't the mods merge this thread and this thread:

From what I have read, on the Bose system, it’s either getting rid of it all or make only minor modifications.
Hence my upgrade of 4080's sub box, Pie adapter for my XM radio ext.
Next on my list is a speaker upgrade. But here is the problem .5 ohms speaker in 9 inch? Not available....
So I am looking to upgrade the rears with a RockFord speaker set:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-RFYHZKE...152S&s=0&cc=01
And use the left over tweeters (it comes with 4) in the front.
Price is not bad sins you get speaker bracket adapters and wiring harness connectors
So no cutting is needed.
Planning on ordering later today, unless someone here has a better plan/idea...
