Replacing Rear 6x9 Speakers
Tomorrow I am going to replace Bose 6x9's with a pair of Infinity's 3ways. How should I go about this because the speakers that are in there now are componets, is there a crossover? If there is should I use the Bose crossover or the one that came with the new speakers?

Here's what you should put in your RX!

I'm curious to know how those work out because I currently have the pioneer 5 ways in my Mazda 626 & Mitsubishi Eclipse (LOVE THEM) and I was thinking of swapping them out and putting them in my RX (when I finally do get off my lazy *** and buy one)
Are you going to be adding a seperate amp?

Nope, i'll be using the Bose amps. The stock Bose speakers are 2 ohms which means that these new speakers will only be getting half the power because they are 4 ohm. However, i'm hoping that they are at least twice as efficient (+3dB) because that would equal the power offset.

Rotary Rasp,
Let me know how these work out. Coincidently, I have the same Infinity speakers but haven't had time to put them in yet. I previously used them in my Honda and they are excellent speakers. I have always been happy with Infinity car speakers.
I believe it will be quite a bit of work to take out the rear seats and back dash in order to replace the speakers. I'll probably wait until it get's warmer outside. If you didn't know, there's really detailed instructions in the DIY section:
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ht=replace+6x9
The crossover included with the Infinity's are to separate the woofer from the mid-range and tweeter. The speaker is "bi-wired" for this crossover so there would be no reason not to use it. If you don't use the crossover, you would have to parallel connect the line to both speaker terminals.

I am curious as to how the 4 ohm 6x9's worked for Rasp, or for anyone else who has tried them instead of 2 OHM.
I would really like to match the load in order to fully take advantage of the available power but the original Infinity's talked about in this thread are discontinued, as well as the ones Rasp was gonna buy.
Does anyone have a recommendation for some 2OHM 6x9's? Or has anyone had an experience (good or bad) with the more common 4OHM?

Tons of people have just used 4 ohm speakers and been pleased. But if you want 2 ohm 6x9's, Infinity still makes those speakers. You're just looking at an old model number. The 693.9i is the current one. 692.9i is the 2-way version. Should run you just over $100 online. If that's too much, their Reference line is a little cheaper. Model number REF9632CF is 2-ohm as well.

Problem with using the stock Bose amp is that its EQ curve is matched to the speakers. Seems to be how they get so much output from cheap speakers - they are EQ'd so that the speakers stay in their "sweet spot" and don't distort. This is responsible for the signature Bose sound...aka "No highs, no lows...it must be Bose!"
