Request for help with NAV screen functionality
Does anyone know how the NAV display screen knows when it is fully open or closed?
I pulled my center stack yesterday to remove the NAV to perform a dealer-authorized repair on a (possibly common) clicking sound when the NAV screen opens (turns out the ribbon cable sticks to the glue leaching from the felt that it rides on). As part of the repair it was necessary to (gently) open and close the screen by hand.
When I put the NAV back in, it seemed dead. It wouldn't open when I pressed the open button, so I thought I'd blown a fuse or something simple, but I was noticing a beep when I pressed the button, so it was getting power. Eventually, I (gently) opened the screen by hand. When I pressed the open button, the screen closed, but wouldn't reopen except, again, by hand.
Never in this process did I get any image on the screen.
I thought I might have skipped a gear on the opening mechanism's geartrain and noticed that when the screen did close itself, it didn't seem fully closed, so I took it apart again, adjusted the cog one tooth in the rack, and tried again.
Now, it won't open or close when I press the open button (still get the beep and I'm detecting a very slight shift in the unit, like its *trying* to open and close), but if I open the screen all the way by hand, and turn off the ignition, the screen does close...turn on the ignition and the screen does open (!) but no image onscreen.
The screen moves smoothly with appropriate stepper motor resistance and does not seem to bind at all.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
