OK, I'm an idiot. I installed my icelink, and it works PERFECTLY (awesome!), but I accidentally unscrewed the wrong screw on the steering-wheel side at first (actually just a hex nut closer to the steering wheel and the seat than the one you're supposed to remove), and then when I unscrewed the right screw, they both went CLANK and disappeared. I thought they dropped into the pocket behind the cloth on the right hand side of the seat well, but I pulled out the cloth and they're not there. I pulled out the radio again, and looked everywhere I could think of, but can't find either the screw or the nut. Does anyone have any idea where they might have gone to?

Thanks

oh boy well your better off just buying two new bolts and replacing them since that location I believe is in the nether regions of your car

you maybe be able to fish it out with a magnet but your going to have one hell of a time, try puttin your feet out of the car with your head down where the pedals are and try to get a look see...maybe I can consult the service manual to help out but I'm in the middle of a complex install and so if I don't finish it tonight I wont be able to drive to work tomorrow without **** flying around the car

Thanks, that sounds like good advice. I already got down in the pedlas with a flashlight. Where is the best place to get the right bolts?

right. I know the nut is a 10mm. Since I don't have the bolt (for the radio side) anymore, can somebody tell me how long it needs to be (and any other particulars)?

I've got a question, do you have to press the play button on your iPod everytime you plug it in or turn the car on? I'm wanting to put mine in the glove box, just wondering if that would be a pain having to press play on the iPod everytime I get in the car.

you use the steering wheel controls, not the ipod controls to turn your ipod on, just switch to EX1 (external one) by using the mode button on the steering wheel or pressing the cd button twice on the faceplate buttons of the HU, it will turn on and start playing the ipod, when you switch to a different source like radio or cd it will pause the ipod and shut it down, but continue to charge it

now that I am thinking about this...

Am I missing something? Does this cost $230 for a WIRE that plugs into the head unit? Or does this wire go to some other piece of hardware before it connects to the iPod?

If it's only for the wire, then $230 seems really expensive....unless this price means it is installed for you.

If you set the iPod to play random, then when it is playing through the stereo it should pick songs to play at random.

It lets you hook up your iPod to your stereo system in the 8 so you can

A) get better sound than the FM transmitter crap
B) Actually control some of the features right from your car stereo controls
C) charge your iPod too.

But as Mugatu noted $230 for a wire seems a bit much, unless something else is involved here?

Just get the pin outs and make your own wire if thats the case

there is a whole converte box...transcoding the control signals from the ipod so that the HU understands them

still way to expensive

BomberNYC - Whatever you tell the iPod to do from the iPod itself it will do. If you put it on a playlist or you put it on shuffle.

i got my dension kit today and installed it right away. what a sweet deal--convenient on the go charging and the sound quality is excellent, helluva lot better than the itrip method i was using.

i have firmware 9.55 and all the steering wheel functions are working fine. 4g ipog.

thanks for the info zOOm, the install guide was handy.

For those of you who installed it yourself, how much trouble was it? I was thinking of having it professional installed.

its very easy to remove all that.. you just need to do it slow. The car is made very well.. the center consoul and dash are really well fitted in.. most of it just snaps down. and then has a few easy to get to Screws. I reccomend everyone take it apart instead of paying $100 and up for labor to do it.. But if you just dont have the time , then you got to pay.

I can give you lot of help if you need it .

i showed my ice link/ipod set up to two of my coworkers today and they were sold. they own different cars (2004 hondas), but as heavy ipod users, they instantly knew this was for them. there is simply no better way to get sound out of the ipod than through the bottom aux/out.

another cool thing--the ipod's eq settings sound fantastic through the head unit. My favorite setting is "acoustic".
