RX-8 Shifter Bump Stop?

RX-8 Shifter Bump Stop?
Please excuse my ignorance, but how does the rx8 shifter work? Is it a direct connection to the transmission or is it the new fly-by-wire kind?
I'm wondering because on my old mustang I had a steeda tri-ax shifter. The stang transmission were directly connected so if you pulled hard enough you could bend the forks. Most aftermarket shifters had bump stops on them to prevent you from doing this.
After looking at the mazdaspeed and RP shifters, I see no such thing. If the rx8 shifter is fly-by-wire, then it doesn't matter. I'm sure that RP and MS would include something as simple as bump stops if the transmission required it, but I'd just like to clear it up.
Thanks!
