I never looked up the power consumption of a xbox, but I suspect it isn't so hot. Pentium processors eat serious power. The Mac Mini is pretty efficient as well as Mobile Pentium and Athalon chip based boards. The VIA C3 doesn't have the same punch as the Intel or AMD, but power consumption is slightly better and the price is a lot better.
power consumption is approximately 55-65 watts on full load...currently I'm using a lower power, power inverter but a friend of mine who owns an xbox repair company removed the xbox powersupply and replaced it with a DC to DC one since the MB of the xbox is DC anyway

power on is pretty simple, either a switch up front or use a pulse relay which I am hooking up as soon as the temperature here goes above 15F

I still will consider having a PC in the car for my Hymee sCANalyser or I may just use a laptop...we will see

oh also....that price of $200 is fully modded and ready to go

and if I have time and energy I will cut the xbox apart to make it half the size...many have done it...in fact I would remove the DVD drive altogether since I rarely use it

Damn... that's not bad at all for the full package.

Word is that power inverters suck badly... I can imagine that you would really like to get rid of it too.

You might want to check out http://www.mp3car.com and look in their online store area. They have a 12V power regulator built that isn't specific to the PC. I'll let you know how thing go there...

Post pics of your project once you've got it sent already. I'd like to see the amount and types of data that they'll be vending sent to us in detail...

NO prob... while the Opus might not be useable for you, I was thinking that the other regulator might be. http://www.mimi-itx.com sells them too in their online store.

I am wondering how you have the xbox mounted, how much room it takes up and what it would all look like if you take it out of the case and build another for it...
